Key Features
  • Edge to Edge Beam Consistency
  • Ideal for Feathering Effects
  • Optional Speed Ring
The Mola Demi 22" Softlight Reflector (Silver) is a scaled down version of the widely used Euro reflector. Like all of the light shaping tools in the line, the Demi uses its patented shape to output a very even beam of light that gradually falls off to a mere 1/2 stop difference from the center. The Demi combines a quality of softness with a unique crispness that accentuates complexion and makeup details as well as the texture of clothing. The soft silver interior gives you a full stop more output than a white reflector, while it sharpens contrast in a way that more closely matches outdoor ambient light. A speed ring adapter is required for use.

Mola Demi Overview

Light Output
Mola's efficiency is equal to or better than other modified parabolic reflectors, and thanks to a specially formulated reflector coating, Mola reflectors produce light of exceptional clarity. In use, Mola reflectors provide a slight warming effect to light. Internal and external diffusers can be used to modify the color temperature and dampen UV light output.
Light Shaping Accessories
To create different effects, light feathering can be easily modified by using the included front diffuser or the interior PAD (Perforated Aluminum Diffuser) or both.
Light Distribution
Mola's light feathering pattern is the same whether you move to the top, bottom or either side of the center axis. Box lights, with their combination of curved and straight sides, are unable to achieve this balance.

Mola Demi Reviews

My Anytime, Anywhere Light Modifier

I have owned various modifiers over the years, but with time I've come to have an affinity for three: parabolics, scrims, and mola's. Mola's with grids are my favorite lights to use in tight spaces, and the Demi in particular is my favorite light to bring to any occasion due to its versatile characteristics and relatively small size. Whether its just to provide even coverage for fill under a diffusion sock or very angular lighting behind a grid, the Demi packs up very nicely and lights a face even better! This makes a great soft key for close ups but can work as something more hard but very even from further back. I particularly love the Mola's with a white grid and opal disc attached, as the spread of light becomes very even across the beam, and the beam is fairly directional with a graceful feathered edge. The first and often only modifier I reach for when space constraints or wind are in consideration.

Beautiful light

This is one of my main modifiers that I use for beauty and it works extremely well. The light gives a nice fall off in conjunction with flags and v flats it just works flawlessly. The main issue I have with it is that it can be expensive to get all of the accessories that you need for it. I need to switch from elinchrom to profoto mount and that's an extra 120 dollars I need to sort. Other than that, beautiful!

Has anyone used this with high output COB lights? ...

Has anyone used this with high output COB lights? I have the Aputure 600c pro ii and 1200x (600&1200w) lights and I’m wondering if they will take the heat. I would use them without a sock and probably just the PAD deflector.
Asked by: Jonathan
The Mola Demi 22" Softlight Reflector (Silver) is made for strobe by design. But it can work with continuous lights, like the Aputure 600c. The 1200 will get too hot. And never use the sock. The dish with the 600c can get hot, so use gloves.

What's the exit angle of the Demi without any extra diffusion or grid?
Asked by: Juan
Hi Juan: Unlike a simple parabola the Demi is difficult to calculate a specific angle. The Demi’s undulating surface changes the angle at several points through the reflector curvature. As well flash tube styles and location make this calculation difficult. Therefore it does not have a quantifiable angle as such.

question

Hi, I'm looking for a way to fit this on a broncolor siros strobe, not sure if the Mola Speed Ring for Broncolor Pulso is the approriate speedring?
Asked by: Charles C.
Yes, the Mola Speed Ring for Broncolor Pulso would be the appropriate adapter since the Siros monolight accept the same accessories as the Broncolor Pulso flash heads.

What is the difference between the "Original Demi Mola" and the "V2"? I actually bought a 22" Mola from B&H in 2018 but now I don't know if it's a V2 but am looking to buy a grid.
Asked by: Douglas
The V2 refers to the version of the grid. The original Demi grid was produced many years, but when we updated the grid we called it the V2 or version 2. The Demi is still the same amazing reflector and has not changed. The V2 grid will absolutely fit your 2018 Demi

Asked by: Tom
If not a COB style using the Mola Opal glass will help spread light as well as redirect back into the dish giving it greater coverage and more even output.

I am using setti now. how much less light does demi give compared to setti? let's say 10m distant.
Asked by: TOMTOM
The best way to measure the difference in light output from the Mola Demi 22" "Beauty Dish" Soft Lite Reflector (White) is to use the Sekonic L-308X-U Flashmate Light Meter; this will give you precise results based on your light kit and this modifier.
