- Sliding Panoramic Head
- Includes 300N Panoramic Unit
- Sequential Shots Around Single Axis
- Sliding Horizontal/Vertical Plates
Manfrotto's MH057A5 Virtual Reality and Panoramic Head (Sliding) makes it possible for you to take sequential constant-angle shots around a single axis with your camera, either in portrait or landscape position. It also ensures that the nodal point of the camera/lens is in line with the center of panoramic rotation so that parallax effects don't cause problems during image stitching.
More DetailsThe MH057A5 is built around (and includes) the 300N panoramic unit, adding a system of sliding horizontal and vertical plates for accurate positioning of the camera nodal point. The plates have engraved index rules to make subsequent repositioning easier. The included quick release elbow bracket lets you use the portrait orientation of the camera, gaining vertical field. The system is suitable for most 35mm SLR still and digital cameras using wide-angle or standard lenses.

question
Can I use an Olympus OMD-M1 - will the bracket fit the camera and will obstruct the cable release?
If you attach the camera mot the bracket with the ports on the open side it will work fine and will not be blocked for access.

question
The physical size of the lens determines what lenses can be used on the unit. I have encountered several nodal point heads that cannot accommodate a Canon 16 to 35mm. What is the list of lenses that are compatible with this unit?
The physical size of the lens in use is actually less important than the weight of the lens. The physical size of the lens will just determine how much of a shift back the lens will be able to accomplish. As long as the lens and camera combination, including the battery, is 11.02 pounds or less, it will be compatible with this panoramic head.

question
Can I equip the HTC vive motion sensors onto this?
This product is meant for the production of Virtual Reality and Panoramic Imagining. It is designed to be used with cameras, not a Virtual Reality Headset, and may not work for your needs.

Shooting in portrait with a 15mm fisheye on a full-frame, how many shots will it take to generate a 360 image?
There is a good resource from our Explora section which touches on this subject: https://bhpho.to/2KTFoKV

question
Does it work for a Canon 16-35? How long of a focal length can it accommodate?
The focal length of the lens does not really have anything to do with this panoramic head. If it is very wide you just cannot shift back as far as other lenses. The only real issue is maximum weight. The head supports a maximum of 11.02 lbs and that includes the camera, batteries and the lens.

question
Can I use it for 360 photography? how different is this than http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/293646-REG/Manfrotto_303SPH_303SPH_QTVR_Spherical_Panoramic.html
Yes, the Manfrotto MH057A5 can be used for 360 degree panoramic photography. It makes sequential constant-angle shots around a single axis with your camera, either in portrait or landscape position. The Manfrotto 303SPH http://bhpho.to/1dtO5i5 is designed for Quick Time Virtual Reality technology, is a panoramic head which can be used for multi-row (spherical) shooting. In practice, the MH057A5 would make a panoramic image along a single straight line of sight. The 303SPH would allow you to create a scene that a viewer looking on a computer screen would be able to pan left or right and up and down (as if in a dome).

question
Can it do multi row panos?
The Manfrotto MH057A5 Virtual Reality and Panoramic Head cannot do multi-row panoramas. For a Manfrotto head that has this ability, look at the 303SPH: http://bhpho.to/1dtO5i5
