The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture affords consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions. The lens' optical design incorporates a pair of extra-low dispersion elements and one super-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for increased clarity and color neutrality. A Super Protect coating has also been applied to lens elements to guard against fingerprints and smudging, and to aid cleaning. A Quick-Shift focusing system is featured, too, which enables near-instant switching to manual focus mode from AF mode for more refined control.
