Sony 10-18mm f/4.0 overview

  • 1Description

Take on ultra-wide landscapes or tight interiors with your APS-C-format E-mount camera by using the E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens from Sony. Delivering a super wide 15-27mm equivalent zoom range, and offering a constant f/4 aperture, this lens can produce high-quality images in a variety of difficult scenarios. The implementation of one Super ED and three aspherical elements further guarantees image quality by minimizing aberrations throughout the range. Also, the lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for reducing the effects of camera shake.

Beyond these features, the lens also features an internal focus design that enables fast, responsive autofocus and a minimum focus distance of 9.8". Additionally, it has a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this ultra-wide angle 10-18mm lens will provide a 15-27mm equivalent zoom range.
A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.
One Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 9.8", and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Sony 10-18mm f/4.0 reviews

E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 126.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two Formats with One lens! I have a variety of wide angles including Sigma and Nikon, I could use them with an adapter, but wanted a native AF wide angle, I have both Nex7 and A7,, so, this lens interested me, one lens for both cameras, and wow,,, effectively a 15-27 on the cropped sensor, and really is a 13 to around 16 on the full frame. It is interesting that up at 18 it does vignetting again, so,,, between 10-13, it vignettes and again at the far range, but in the sweet 13-17 range, it works fine, super low distortion. I consider this lens a total must have if you are a Sony shooter. Light weight, sharp enough, low distortion, cropped and full frame ultra wide, guess I just have to end how I started,,, WOWWW!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUPER for video This little thing looks deceiving, it packs a punch above its weight. To some the amount of plastic materials using in it's construction might be negative. For me that is a huge advantage. I am able to use this lens on a very small 3 axis gimbal (MS1) with both A7RII and A7SII. The best 4K video quality from the R model is in S35 mode, making the 10-18mm lens the best wideangle option. As for the S model, I like to use it for the 120fps HD setting, cropping 2.2x into the FF sensor. The lens is sharpest towards the 10mm end. Having OSS sealed the deal for video use, very happy with it, although it is a little pricy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wonderful lens for APS-C e mount cameras I bought this lens for my Sony Nex-7 just before departing for a vacation in Venice and Sicily. Old European cities often present the opportunity to photograph large facades without sufficient shooting distance to capture the entire building using a lens within the normal range. This lens did not disappoint, providing an ultra wide view angle along with impressive sharpness and was compact enough that it did not dwarf the camera body. I got great pictures of canals, cityscapes, churches, public squares, Greek temples and amphitheaters. The OSS was a particularly useful and rescued many a shot in dimly lit interiors. This lens is worth its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra Wide Companion for A6000 This lens is perfect for travel & landscape shooting for the Sony A6000 covering 15-27mm. My copy is razor sharp in center and corners especially from f/5.6 to f/8. I love the perspective and color rendition. If positioned correctly distortion can be mimimized and kept in check using Lightroom lens profiles. Lens construction is solid and hood attaches securely. Autofocusing is spot on and manual focusing with peaking quick & reliable. Along with my 16-70 f/4 Zeiss & Sony 70-200 f/4 the trifecta combo covers 15-300mm in a light package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Wide-Angle Zoom The size, weight, and overall quality of this lens is just about perfect. Really good image quality across the frame with the corners already good wide open. Having OSS in a wide-angle zoom is surprisingly useful when using the lens handheld. The lens does exhibit some magenta color casting in the corners and edges when paired with the NEX 7 even with the latest firmware. This is an issue with the camera design not the lens. You may want to keep this in mind if you're deciding between the NEX 6 and 7 as the 6 doesn't exhibit this problem. If you already have the 7 you can correct the magenta cast with cornerfix or the Adobe plugin. This is my favorite NEX lens and highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this lens. Thank me later! I am a confirmed wide-angle nut. It all started with a nice Nikkor 20mm lens on a Nikon FM body some 35 years ago, and here I am with a new NEX-6 and this great lens. This lens was the deciding factor for me not going with the Olympus OMD, as this beauty uses standard 62mm filters and at the same time provides wonderfully wide, sharp views of the world with minimal distortion, all presented in a very well engineered, compact, great looking and feeling package. It gives one and all entry to the wonderful world of ultra wide angle photography for a moderate investment. Just buy this lens. Really. It is a joy to use, and for me transforms the NEX system from promising into the real deal. You can thank me later.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best landscape Lens for A6000 very sharp You have two options for doing landscapes with the A6000 - this lens and the 16-70mm Ziess Zoom lens. I like that this lens is smaller than the Zoom lens and allows you to do true wide shots. Colors are not vivid with this lens, but the images are really sharp. OSS is a great feature for handheld shots. The down side is with a maximum aperture of F/4 is does not allow in enough light on cloudy days. While the zoom range would allow you to use this as a standard lens - you would be disappointed compared to a fast prime lens. Overall a great special purpose lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Companion for my SONY a6000 I purchased this lens right before to Colorado vacation. Used for snow scene, buildings and mountains, interior, and landscape. The lens was completely satisfied for handling and image quality. My favorite lens with full size DSLR is 16-35mm, but I didn't want to carry that heavy lens under 7 degree, heavy snowing weather. But I got all the images I want with this lens. May be a little less image quality if I want to enlarge over 30-40. Otherwise, good enough quality. Overall, it is very nice lens. I love it!
