Olympus FR-2 Reviews
Just what I wanted
I have a Bolt light ring. I know it isn't the best light ring in the world, but it was what I could afford. But I couldn't find an adapter for my 60mm Olympus macro. It is only 46mm. I finally took a chance and purchased this adapter ring. I am so happy that I did. Now I can use my light ring with my 60mm.
Missing a place for the lens cap while attached
Ive used the FR-1 with my oly 50mm f/2.0 4/3 lens, and having transitioned to MFT, with my new oly 60mm f/2.8 macro. I have both the ring flash and twin flash oly strobes for macro work; the FR series adapters are necessary. Unfortunately, while the FR1 went around the lens thus allowing you to use the lenscap as normal, the FR2 screws on like a filter using the 46mm thread. It provides a 67mm female filter thread for the twin flash to screw on, and the bayonet lugs for the ring flash to twist on. I use the twin flash mostly, and with this attached there is no way to put any lens cap on while the flash is attached, so sandwiching in a UV filter is the only protective option. Also, while the FR1 was a metal, quick-on quick-off mount that had a ring-groove in the lens to hold it in place, the FR2 is a plastic housing with thread-on attachment and doesnt have the quality feel of the old mirrorslapping 4/3 camera lenses from Oly. At the end of the day, it does the job.
