Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helpful Guide I also own David Busch's Field Guide for the D800/D800E. Of the two I prefer this more robust guide. It isn't difficult to figure out what the features on the camera do. The real value, for me anyway, of any camera guide is learning from someone who has many experiences with the camera and is telling me why choosing one camera setting over another one makes sense in a specific instance. And this is what I get from this guide. I use this guide book in a couple of ways. First I thumb through it looking for potentially interesting sections. In this way I come across interesting articles about things I have never heard before. I enjoyed reading about image exposure and if 18% reflectance is really the most accurate middle gray, for example. The second method I use is going straight to the index and looking for specific things that I have questions about, say for example, 12 bit or 14 bit settings. Of course, you can just go to any web browser and search for these things (and I frequently do), but I'm looking for a source that I can consistently trust. I find that I trust this David Busch fellow to know what he's talking about. If you are very experienced already you may not be in the market for such a guide book. However, if like me, you appreciate a clearly written, friendly but authoritative voice, this may well be the book for you too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from necessary evil No one buys a camera to be burdened with having to read a big book about the camera, but some of us will never realize the camera's (or our) potential without this extra help. This book is very readable, is well organized and provides good illustrations. Good to have.
