Pentax K-AC128 Overview

The K-AC128 AC Adapter Kit for K-30 Digital Cameras from Pentax consists of several pieces, including the D-AC120 AC adapter and AC plug cord to connect the AC adapter to a wall outlet, as well as the D-DC128 DC Coupler that plugs into Pentax K-30 DSLR cameras. It is ideal for supplying your camera with uninterrupted power for extended periods of time, without worrying about draining the battery power. This time can include downloading pictures to your computer, for extended work in a studio, or while viewing images when connected to your TV.

It is cautioned that you ensure the camera is turned off before connecting or disconnecting the AC adapter. Make sure connections are secure between the terminals. SD Memory Card or data may be corrupted if the connection to the power supply is lost while the card is being accessed.

I used this adapter to power the Pentax k500 for a time lapse shoot of my miniature rosebush. Everything worked the way it should.

Pricey, But Works

A little pricey for an AC Adapter, but, it does give you the ability to power the Pentax K-50 for extended consumption. Comes in three parts; the power plug that goes from the outlet to the power supply, the power supply, and lastly, the battery adapter itself. The battery adapter takes the place of your battery (looks just like a Li-Ion Battery Pack), the cord comes out through a slot provided on the camera already, and plugs into the cord coming from the power supply. This AC Adapter does not have a way of charging the battery, and I haven't figured out if the power supply cord can actually plug into the camera directly. If you plan on taking time-lapse photos, or do extended amounts of time the camera must be powered on, this can not only extend the time your battery can run, but may also save you on batteries. In either case, the price is rather steep for a AC Adapter.

iIs the K-AC128 AC Adapter Kit for the K30 compatible with the K70? Same battery, and the K70's K-AC168 kit doesn't seem to be available in the U.S.

We recommend it as an accessory for the K70. The opening for the wire is on the same place for both cameras. As you mentioned, the cameras use the same batteries, so take the same voltage. There should be no problem using this adapter with the K70.

The D-DC128 end of the adapter requires 8.3 V for the camera, so I cannot see how a 5V USB power supply is going to work.
