This flash also has a high guide number of 170' at ISO 100 and 105mm as well as a built-in USB port that allows for future firmware updates via the internet. A high quality metal base allows quick and easy attachment to the camera.

    Metz AF-1 reviews

mecablitz 52 AF-1 digital Flash for Nikon Cameras is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sturdy, well built Flash My initial tests are a little worrisome so I need to do some more testing. Shooting TTL I've found that it's overpowering the exposure. I would love to see a quantum high out power connection in the future but I would expect it to raise the cost of the flash and this would make it less desirable. I bought the units to use as a remote flash system so I'm not as worried as I likely would be but still! I've got three SB800's that are starting to show the signs of dying, I didn't want to spend the $$$ on the newest Nikon speed lights. And this seems to be a great alternative, even with the first tests not going so well. I'll have to update this review at a later time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice alternative to Nikon SB flashes I'm using this flash on my D7000 and D800 cameras. It works just as well as my two SB 800s. It interfaces wirelessly with the SB800s, either as a commander or a remote. I'm also getting very accurate exposures. The touch screen control is easier to use than the controls on the Nikon flashes, once you get used to it. It costs a lot less than a new SB700 or SB900-910. Metz has a reputation as the independent maker of durable, high-quality flashes, and this one does not disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Alternative to Nikon CLS Flash Performs every bit as well as my Nikon flash and is more powerful yet cost around 60% of the price of an SB-910. Excellent build quality. It works seamlessly with my D7100 on-camera or in CLS mode. Like the Nikon, it keeps the last setting when powered off, but is much easier to set up than the SB when switching from TTL to CLS slave. Everything considered, I'm now a loyal Metz fan from here on out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better value than comparable Nikon Flash This flash is probably the best value for money, given the feature set which includes wifi in both Master and Slave mode and High speed sync. I have long wanted to purchase the Nikon SB 700, but in terms of value for $ this flash stood out. I could not resist the temptation of purchasing this during thanksgiving. In my first 30 days using the flash, this has performed to expectation. Learning to set-up the flash in various modes was easy. I set this up as a slave on a tripod, with the built-in flash on D7000 as a commander and was easily able to try off-camera flash techniques.Hi speed sync. was cool too.. The flash recognized the camera setting automatically. The exposures were spot on and the power was adequate for my needs. The $$ Metz rebate makes this flash most attractive at this time. The shoe is made of metal. The build quality appears solid. When mounted on the camera, it felt a bit loose, when compared to my SB 600, which fits snugly - but did not impact functionality. I am glad I made the decision to purchase this. Delivery from B & H was quick and smooth - on the whole I've had an excellent all round experience so far with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only lasted for 2 years. I have used Metz flashes for about 35 years with no problems. All the sudden I bought this flash and it doesn't work properly any more. When I flip the head for a bounce, it overexposes terribly. I thought what the heck, I'll get it fixed. The only trouble is Metz has no service centers. I bought a cheap little flash to get me by and it works fine. All I can advise is not to buy any Metz flash since the cannot be serviced. So long Metz since this one is headed for the trash. Everything changes! Joe

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely bright , versatile an easy to I bought the mecablitz 52 to use with my Nikon D90. The flash works extremely well in its auto mode, It is very very bright, shooting objects well over a hundred feet away is no problem at all. It recycles very quickly, keeping up with the camera shooting moving subjects. Haven't had it shut down from overheating like my old nikon flash. The only downside is it does go through batteries, but that is to be expected, The menus are simple and intuitive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mecablitz 52 AF-1 So far this flash has met expectations. Have used as dedicated flash and as slave (just to see how it works). I have yet to really utilize flash for long period of time ... as I am still learning the many functions. Operations manual in multiple languages so take your pick ... interfaces perfectly with D7000 Nikon DSLR have lots to learn about that one too. Typically used on-camera flash with other cameras, recently upgraded to DSLR

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising powerful for its small size Works seamlessly with my Nikon D7000 and D800. Better build quality than Nikon speedlites and more powerful. What is there not to like.
