The mecablitz 52 AF-1 digital Flash from Metz is a shoe mount flash, with an illuminated rear touchscreen, designed to be compatible with Sony/Minolta cameras featuring ADI / P-TTL. This flash also has a high guide number of 170' at ISO 100 and 105mm as well as a built-in USB port that allows for future firmware updates via the internet. A high quality metal base allows quick and easy attachment to the camera. This flash has the older Sony/Minolta Auto-Lock Accessory Shoe and requires the optional ADP-MAA adapter for use on cameras with the multi-interface shoe.

Metz 52 AF-1 Overview

The mecablitz 52 AF-1 digital Flash from Metz is a shoe mount flash, with an illuminated rear touchscreen, designed to be compatible with Sony/Minolta cameras featuring ADI / P-TTL. This flash also has a high guide number of 170' at ISO 100 and 105mm as well as a built-in USB port that allows for future firmware updates via the internet. A high quality metal base allows quick and easy attachment to the camera. This flash has the older Sony/Minolta Auto-Lock Accessory Shoe and requires the optional ADP-MAA adapter for use on cameras with the multi-interface shoe.

The 52 AF-1 is designed to fully support a Sony/Minolta camera's ADI / P-TTL system. It can be operated as a TTL slave unit that can be controlled by the camera's own built-in commander mode or as a master itself.

The flash also features an auto zoom head from 24-105mm that can be set to match the camera's sensor, a full bounce and swivel head (with a fully swiveling reflector system which also contains a flip-out reflector card and a diffuser), a built-in wide angle diffuser for 12mm coverage, and in addition, full manual control from 1/1 to 1/128 power in 1/3 steps.

High-speed flash synchronization allows flash to be used with any shutter speed
Operate the 52 AF-1 via its illuminated graphic display by directly touching the display indicators. For portrait shots, the display rotates the touchscreen display by 90°
Wireless full TTL triggering via a camera or flash with commander/master mode
Autozooming head can cover from 24 to 105mm, and 12mm when used with the included wide-angle diffuser

Will a Sony A6000 > MENU ? (Camera Settings) ? Flash Mode ? Wireless setting control this flash unit when used off-camera? Or is some sort of on-camera radio controller required? Can you make any off-camera flash unit recommendations for the A6000? thx

You will need some type of on-camera flash unit or flash controller in order to fire another flash such as the Metz Mecablitz 52 AF-1 with the Sony A6000. One flash you could use is the Sony HVL-F20M: http://bhpho.to/1waZeiy

No, that flash has the older shoe. Unfortunately, Im not aware of any external battery pack that is compatible with the Metz 52 AF-1.

Used on a Sony A7R(and Sony Multi-Interface Shoe Adapter), are all of the flashes functions operational with legacy (adapter mounted) manual lenses with no electrical connection, or do I have to use Sony FE lenses for full functionality?

You will not retain TTL functionality with an external flash while using legacy lenses on a mirrorless camera body such as the Sony A7R.

Depending on the camera you are using, the Metz Mecablitz 52 AF-1 TTL can be controlled by the commander function on the camera body. Otherwise, you will need another manufacturer's flash unit as a master to use this flash off camera.
