Quantum Instruments OM3 Overview

From Manufacturer

The Omicron OM3 TTL Flash and Auto-Tracking Video Light from Quantum Instruments allows users to take TTL flash photos while simultaneously capturing video. A "chromatically correct" LED array – a mix of high quality white and colored LEDs – delivers true color rendition. Both the flash and continuous light produce a 60° beam angle with 5000K temperature.

Auto-Tracking for continuous video lighting adjusts the light output as you dolly in or out, over a 2 to 1 change in distance. With an optional CoPilot in your camera's hot shoe, OMICRON 3 becomes a dedicated TTL flash, and remote Qflashes are wirelessly linked with Omicron and your camera in TTL or Manual mode. The OM3 is compatible with lenses up to 3.9" in diameter and can use a Quantum Turbo battery. A mounting bracket is included.

DON'T WASTE YOU'RE MONEY! Quantum use to a name for innovation and quality , not anymore! This Video Light flickers while you dim it and what moron at Quantum thought it be smart to when you get to the end of the dimming knob it actually turns OFF? if im dimming and in the middle of a shot , the last thing I want is it full turn off! that's what the OFF button is there for . and the so called auto tracking' barely work s , even when it actually kinda/sorta does, to say the least its bulky and hard to handle All in all a huge waste of money. Do yourself a favor and just buy the cheeper and more light weight video ring from any other company and get yourself a a proper rimvflash fro, a better company , and you'll probably pay less owning 2 operate units than this one useless one

good light, but not good design for a big body camera

I bought this with high hopes to keep this in my camera bag with other Quantum flashes. The light quality is very good as others mentioned. The images look natural to my eyes. It is not as powerful as I expected vs. a traditional flash head but I am aware of that for LEDs. The continuous video light can be potentially annoying to the subject as it has that harsh LED intensity. Problem: this light isn't well designed for a big camera like the Nikon D4s I am using. The problem is the mounting screws on the bracket pieces is at its max fit on a big D4 body camera so there's little leverage to tighten it at the inner edge unless you have pliers handy. Also, on a Nikon 24-70mm lens (or longer), it pokes through the central circle with a very small tolerance free. Since the bracket has some wiggle play even at my tightest attempt, the lens sides wiggle enough to bang against the inner rim of the flash. Basically, the slider pieces on the bracket doesn't lock tight. If this happens while I'm just playing around, there is no way it could stay tight for a day in the field. The bracket is also tough to hold long if you have a heavy camera body and lens. Stamped flat steel, really? I had high hopes for this flash since I love Quantum's other flash heads. Unfortunately, I can't see how one can be out and about for the day of full shooting without hurting their hands on the bracket or whacking the lens senseless. It may suit other cameras okay, but for my combination, it was not meant to be. To make matters more diappointing, the box was missing the CQ2 cable to connect to the battery, lucky I have been using Quantum to have other CQ8 cables to try.

question

Will the dedicated high syncro flash work with a Panasonic Lumix GH5?
Asked by: Albert
The GH5 PC terminal will take the cable that connects to the Omicron OM3 so yes, it will work.
