Rokinon Cine overview

  • 1Description

The Sony E mount Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine AS UMC Lens was developed primarily for film and video applications. The cine version of Rokinon's 35mm lens features industry-standard gearing for the focus and aperture ring, and the aperture ring has been de-clicked for smooth iris pulls. The aperture and focus scales have also been relocated to the side of the lens, where it is easier for focus pullers to read them.

This lens is compatible with full-frame sensors and can also be used on APS-C-sized sensors, where the 35mm-equivalent focal length will be 52.5mm. The optical construction incorporates two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion to produce sharper imagery. Additionally, a UMC coating has been applied to lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich images.

Wide-angle prime lens is well-suited to use in a broad variety of shooting situations.
Fast T1.5 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over focus placement for shallow depth of field applications.
Two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element reduce chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and clarity.
UMC coating improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.
Geared aperture and focus rings are compatible with standard follow focuses for greater control over adjustment.
De-clicked aperture ring facilitates smooth, quiet exposure adjustments during recording.

    Rokinon Cine reviews

35mm T1.5 Cine AS UMC Lens for Sony E Mount is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Home run... if you have a budget Okay, so the lenses lack the color matching of more expensive equipment and have some breathing effect, they're a bargan. Check out all the side by side comparisons on Vimeo. Not a lot of difference in on-screen result (small screen) given the price (1/10th that of top line lenses) If you're budget sensitive at all, this lens makes sense. Bought the 24 and 35. Would like to see a 50mm in the line up (Hear that Rokinon?). Will add the 85mm shortly. Using Sony E mount - no issues so far with FS-100 and some preliminary shooting. Definitely buy a hard case for these lenses. I'll bet B&H will sell you one...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lens The quality is great. It's a little heavy and large for what it is but I'm not going to complain when the picture comes out great. The biggest problem I had was that I didn't realize the Cine lenses were meant for studio settings. I can't see any of the numbers on the lens because it's meant for a production assistant to use and follow focus. The lens locks in and all the numbers are on the left side of the lens. I probably should have bought the 1.4 non-cine version for my run and gun use but the clickless aperture is nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Lens This lens meet my expectations and beyond! I bought this along with the 24mm and 85mm Rokinon Cinema lenses and I'm very impressed with them. Sharp Images throughout with no vignette what so over. I compared this lens with Canon and other big name brand cinema lens and this keeps up with them real good! I would definitely recommend this product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bang for the buck A good cinema styled lens with plenty of bang for the buck. Fast, reasonably sharp and built more solid than you would expect from the prize. The lens delivers good picture and decent mechanics even if the short throw of the focus ring is not ideal for cinema style shooting. I shoot movies on a professional level and will use this lens for crash camera applications, test filming and stills. I am pleased with the picture quality the lens delivers and I would recommend this to anyone who shoots movies/stills on a high amateur level or for professionals that need a cheap solution for a rigged/crash camera. I also bought the 24, 50 and 85mm of the same make and they made the same impression.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving the Creamy Bokeh The bokeh that this Rokinon produces is outstanding. This is a wonderful lens with surprisingly good quality, considering the price. Feels like a fine Swiss watch. Only negative is that it is slightly on the heavy side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value Great for HD video production. Solid built. Good size. Good weight. Long focus throw. No chromatic aberations. Negligible spheric aberations. Good value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly sharp lens! Shooting on my A7sII, this lens is a dream. I have the Sigma Art 35mm lens as well, but I prefer using the all manual lenses for smoother video. This lens is stupid sharp when its stopped down, and not bad when wide open. If you stop down to about 2.8, it just keeps getting better from there, but as I said above, totally useable wide open. The only downfall of this lens, is that its huge. I have the Rokinon Cine 100mm macro, and they are almost the same size!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens Great cine lens for video production at a fraction of costs compared to Zeiss lens. I love the manual iris and smoth focus operation on my sony fs7 camera. It's on the heavier side but solid build. For the costs I highly recommend. I use it for commercial and music videos.
