B+W 66-1071068 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 82mm Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Multi-Resistant Coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.
Constructed from high quality Schott glass for optical clarity.
Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such an amazing polarizer I use this with my 16-35mm f/2.8 L II every time I shoot. It truly is an amazing addition to my lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every cent.... I bought this filter when I bought my Nikkor 24-70 f2.8E ED VR. Just the other night my tripod was knocked over. The camera and lens fell about 2 feet before hitting the cement. I was afraid the lens was broken because that's what hit the cement first. After close inspection the only damage was to the outer most part of the filter ring...it still screws on and off. The filter was about $94.00, but it saved a $2400.00 lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Lens Saver I recently bought a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 along with this filter. While walking doing some Street Photography, the front of the lens struck a metal pole. The filter glass shattered, but the lens escaped without damage. The filter saved me $2400.00 for a new lens. I kinda balked at paying the $109.00 for the filter, buy I sure glad I did now. The best $109.00 I ever spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from B&W Polarizer MRC Filter always ! Exclusively, I will use the B&W MRC Polarizer Filter when shooting scenic shots with my high quality lenses ! The method in which this filter is made and the components used to make this filter are only the best and I've never had issues installing them or removing them as lower cost/lesser quality filters will sometime present themselves to have !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent circular polarizer! Really improved my recent photos of snow on Mauna Kea mountain. Like that the f-stop did not change much. Only criticism is the slight difficulty of threading it to the lens due to the narrow ring next to circular ring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality The last circular polarizer I purchases was inexpensive. With the purchase of a new Sigma Art Lens I decied to invest in a better quality polarizer... no regrets with the choice. Very smooth transition and does a great job at elimating glare and/or saturating daylight colors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice filter but issues. Need filter wrench just in case Nice polarizer but it got stuck to my BH UV filter requiring use of filter wrench even though using light pressure to screw filter on. Maybe a defective polarizer as I not had problems with my one other BH circular polarizer and others made by another company.
