    Sony DVF-EL100 reviews

    DVF-EL100 .7" OLED Viewfinder for F5, F55, and F65 is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great quality potential not realized on board viewfinder for Sony F5 or F55 cameras. A great piece of equipment for use in outdoor, bright conditions, But the manual focus diopter eyepiece assembly doesent match the quality of this expensive viewfinder. It diminishes the advantages afforded by the upgraded finder. The optics in the eyepiece could be made better to match the quality of the viewfinder output.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but $? I had a chance to use this viewfinder on an F5 recently for a documentary project which is a combination of 'walk and talks' and series of more composed beauty shots. Was using Sony PL primes, a B4 HD Canon and a Red 18-50 f2.8 zoom. Not bad. The image itself is excellent, and the subtlety of the shading is definitely there. As the other viewer pointed out, the diopter ring is pretty cheap - at this price is should be made out of titanium. What is truly disappointing for me is the lack of peaking control. I'm big on *high* peaking for critical focus and was not impressed with the (regular white) peaking which I had maxed out. In more difficult situations, particularly with the Red zoom, I was straining for focus, particularly in lower light situations. I get everyone has their peaking levels they like, etc., but at this kind of price point I should be getting mega-peaking if I want it. A simple peaking dial on the VF - like on the EX3 or any other old Betacam I used to use - should be standard, and it's not there. The colour peaking is OK, nothing to write home about: no better than my $ Kinoteknik VF. There is a second button that, unless I'm missing something, does nothing. And there are not choices to adjust the 1:1 zoom (which, again, you can do on the cheaper Kinoteknik). As well, there is no flip up screen which is *very* frustrating; as well, the VF has a kind of self protect feature where it flashes white whenever your eye leaves the VF. I suppose it's a great feature to protect the VF from direct light, but when you're trying to take a peek from far it's distracting and annoying. Essentially it would seem this is a VF for feature work, where external monitors abound. But I still think at $ I expected to be blown away, and I'm not.
