Field Optics Research B002 overview

  • 1Description

The EyeShields Compact Size Eyecups from Field Optics Research includes one pair of angled rubber eyecups that attach to eyepieces measuring 1.1 to 1.46 inches in diameter. The angled shape of these eyecups enhances the quality of the transmitted image by fitting against the side of the observer's face and blocking ambient light from creating glare on the ocular surface. The flexible rubber material provides a comfortable viewing experience for the observer as well as shielding their eyes from wind, snow, dust, and rain.

Package includes one pair of EyeShields

    Field Optics Research B002 reviews

Eyeshields Compact Size Eyecups (Pair) is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from not really what I wanted I was looking for replacement eyecups for my antique (from the 1960s) binoculars--hard plastic tubes that screw onto the binoculars to keep my eyes from coming into direct contact with the lenses and to keep my eyes the correct distance from the lens. These don't really do that. They are soft rubber/plastic shields to keep light out, and they stretch to slip on over the eyecup, rather than screw on to replace the eyecups. If they were stiffer, they might work, but then they couldn't just slip on. They are better than nothing, but I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but... I was pleasantly surprised that these arrived in a stylish aluminum box; pretty high class for inexpensive wares. Unfortunately the product is less than stellar. It was a tight fit but I got them on the binoculars and they work OK if a bit small. The problem is that the rubber is so soft that it deforms if subjected to any stress at al. Pulling the binoc's out of the case; deformed. Laying them down against anything; deformed. There is no real way to get them back to the optimum shape. Still usable but an annoyance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Difficult Fit After noting the manufacturer's specs and carefully measuring the eyepiece and eyecup diameters for a couple of pairs of my compact binoculars, I ordered a pair of the compact-sized Eyeshields. Although they should have fit on at least one pair, given the specs, they didn't. The diameter of the Eyeshields was too small and there's little flexibility in the rubber material to allow sufficient stretch to get a good fit. I returned them for a refund. Despite my sizing issue with the compact-sized version, the Eyeshields may still be worthwhile if you're able to get a good fit. It just may take a bit more effort. Based upon my experience with the standard-size offering, the Eyeshields do improve the viewing experience (see my review of this item) by blocking out extraneous light and enhancing visible detail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Field Optics Binocular Eyeshields I'm a long-time amateur stargazer, and I put these on all the binoculars I use at night. Their ability to block light pollution from the sides has a dramatic effect on the visibility of dim objects, and just makes viewing much more relaxing.I recommend them highly!
