AJA's 4-Channel Bi-Directional Audio A/D & D/A Converter allows you to convert between balanced analog and AES/EBU digital audio. It can be configured as a 4-channel A/D converter, 4-channel D/A converter, 2-channel A/D and 2-channel D/A converter, or an AES sychronizer. An included XLR breakout cable provides audio connections for ADA4, allowing 8 channels of AES audio input and output while keeping the overall size of the Mini-Converter compact and portable. Audio levels are configurable via DIP switch control. The ADA4 also accepts an AES11, worldclock, or video sync/color black reference input for synchronization. Reference input and synchronization are automatic. For power, the Mini-Converter comes with a universal power supply with international plug connections for use in wall sockets around the world.

AJA ADA4 Reviews
does what it is supposed to in its niche task
For starters, this will operate on DC power, the chassis is small (about the size of a Lectro SR receiver), it arrives with a DB25 breakout cable (4 in / 4 out XLR) and the power supply. The unit operates at either 48kHz or 96kHz--no other sampling rates. If you are trying to deliver two to four AES signals, in or out of something, are working remotely and need DC power (it will operate on AC power via the supplied power supply as well) then the Aja ADA4 is your ticket. It will sync via Word Clock if you do not have sample rate conversion on your AES input destination. How does it compare to other converters? I am not sure. I have a bunch of different converters and the Aja ADA 4 happily runs along side them all and it sounds like it belongs in the signal chain to me. It is professional gear, for sure. If you are able to run a set up with rack mount gear, then this little box is probably not the correct choice... maybe look at Lynx, Apogee, Metric Halo or many others. But for niche remote location work, this is pretty much the best (maybe the only) realistic option. Please note the supplied break out DB25 cable is sort of bulky---if you plan to drop this into a sound bag or other compact travel set up, you will likely want to build yourself another cable. The DB25 cable otherwise works great apart from being bulky.
Great Product
Just keeps on working
