Hoodman H32 Overview

  • 1Description

The HoodLoupe Optical Viewfinder for 3.2" LCD Displays is used to make a close inspection of images as you review them on your DSLR camera's LCD monitor. The viewfinder isolates the display from ambient light so you will not be distracted by reflections or shadows during use. It will provide full coverage of an LCD monitor up to 3.2" diagonally with a standard (3:2) aspect ratio.

Glare-Free Photos and Videos
This HoodLoupe is designed to fit the 3.2" LCD monitors of larger DSLR cameras, with a 1:1 magnification ratio. With the same 3:2 aspect ratio as your camera's LCD, the HoodLoupe allows more of the screen to be used for photo and video display so you can clearly see what you're shooting without the reflections and glare caused by ambient light.
Diopter Adjustment: +/-3
Adjust the diopter setting to your own eyesight for a customized viewing experience that is both comfortable and clear.
Case & Quick-Release Lanyard Included
The lanyard fits around your neck and has a quick-release fastener that allows you to easily remove it. It also comes with a protective carrying case for safe and easy storage, with a built-in belt clip for convenient carrying while on the job.

    Hoodman H32 Reviews

HoodLoupe Optical Viewfinder for 3.2" LCD Displays is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST for outdoor shooters I first used the HoodLoupe in a photography class held at the beach. The instructor and his assistant had one and it was a revelation to me. I was trying to get my exposure right, but in the harsh sun, it was very difficult to see my LCD screen so I asked to use the loupe and I was able to review my shot magnified and blocked from sun. 2 days later, Monday, I purchased from B&H and had it in time for the next class the following Saturday where we would be shooting outside again. Great investment for those who do a lot of outdoor shooting, or even for those who don't and do not tether their camera to their computer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hoodloupe No so Optical Viewfinder I bought it in order to be able to view the screen of my D800 under bright light condition. I have to admit that it does the job but the quality of the lens is poor. Viewing through it, only the central part of the image is in focus while the edges are effected by noticeable distortion and blur. It is quite annoying if you want to check if the whole picture is in focus. To do that you have to move the device in order to have the portion of the picture you want to analyze under the center of the lens. Since I used the device in conjunction with the Hoodman Cinema Strap, it was not easy to do it. I am inclined to guess that the device has been just designed for a rough check of the picture focus. More, for the price paid I was expecting a better quality and a little less bulky item, even if cosmetically it is well done. I can recommend it to customers whose requirement is just to view the picture on the back screen under bright light condition and for a fast check of the picture's focus. If they expect quality viewing all across the picture area, there are limitation as described above.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, A big helper I use this a lot when taking photos using off camera flash. It is mmost useful when I do twilight photos of buildings for realtors. I use about 4 off camera flashes to augment the natural light. The HOudloupe allows me to look at the enlarged image to see if all the lights are firing and that they are aimed correctly. Every house has to look like the enchanted castle. The built in diopter is great so I don't need glasses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expensive but Essential I shoot still photos, landscapes, and architectural interiors and exteriors under natural light, and I often shoot from a tripod. Getting composition right is important to me, and this loupe lets me see my shot clearly, edge to edge, whatever the light. For me, it is an essential tool, and I'm on my third. Two weaknesses prevented me from giving this a full five stars. First is the cost. Second is the lanyard. Over the years the system has changed, but all three failed eventually, one causing the loss of the loupe. Now I don't even use the lanyard supplied. I take a nylon wire tie, thread it through a small key ring, and wraps it tightly around the barrel. That system outlasted one loupe and is now successfully holding a third to a souvenir lanyard I bought for my first repaired loupe in Nova Scotia.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Loopy for this Loupe I use this for critical focusing. Does a fine job optically. But keeping it in place on the camera Nikon D750 or D90)is another story altogether. A rather expensive support is available, but seems overpriced and over-engineered. A simpler fix is to use something similar to plumber's strapping and two 1/4 by 20 by 1/2 bolts to secure to bottom of the camera. I have taken to just hanging it around my neck with the included strap and pressing it to the LCD screen when needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great!! As a photographer that photographs heavy construction, I am often required to take photographs during the bright, Arizona, desert sun at mid day. Consequently, I often cannot see the images, histograms, etc. being shown on the LCD of my Canon 5D Mark III. The HoodLoupe has made it possible to see my LCD in the bright sun. I does exactly what I needed and I am very pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spend $10 more for the portable version This is a fantastic product but I'd spend another $10 for the Hoodman portable version B&H # HOCH32. It collapses down to smaller size when not in use and is almost a half ounce lighter. I bought both and am returning this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what it claims After contacting Hoodman directly regarding using this product on a slightly smaller 3 screen on the Canon 60D, I was assured this newer 3.2 version would work fine. It seems to fit perfectly despite the stated size difference. The Hoodman representatives were very helpful and reinforced my belief in their products.
