Kupo KG203612 overview

  • 1Description

With a black powder-coated finish, the Kupo 40" Hex Grip Arm with Big Handle has a 2-1/2" grip head mounted on the end of a 40" piece of steel tubing, which is 5/8" (16mm) in diameter. The surface of the tubing is machined to create a rough texture to ensure a non-slippery surface. The 2-1/2" grip head consists of a pair of rotating aluminum discs attached to a 5/8" (16 mm) receiver. The discs have 4 different sized V-shaped jaws to accept any accessory with a 5/8, 1/2, 3/8, or 1/4" mounting stud or tubing.

The V-shaped jaws feature teeth that securely grab whatever is mounted between the plates securely. The 2-1/2" grip head features an oversized ergonomic T-handle and dedicated roller bearings designed for maximum torque. At the end of the 40" grip arm, you will find a baby hex-pin with 6 milled flat surfaces.

You can mount your light fixtures or accessories on the end of your grip arm like a mini boom. They won't rotate due to the set-screw of that fixture or accessory, locking onto one of the sides of the hex-pin. The grip head uses a non-slip aluminum friction disc that maintains its durability over time, offering the user positive locking strength and precise control. The grip head is constructed around a solid steel central bolt with a fixed solid pin to secure it to the aluminum casting for increased strength and durability.

40" Hex Grip Arm with Big Handle (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this one! I've used a lot of grip heads/arms and this one is definitely the best. One of my biggest pet peeves is watching assistants attach heads to the end of grip arms. We've all done it, we all know its wrong. But this arm is a MUCH more practical alternative to carrying around an extra hex pin for your head. The grip truck we rented for a shoot last week had one of these bad boys, and I don't have any complaints about it at all. Great piece of kit that does the job of at least 3 other items you might carry around. A must have for any location photographer who bring a lot of lighting EQ with them, especially if you make your assistants hollywood lights often. Much more practical than carrying around an additional boom arm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why did I wait so long to get these? Putting a light head on the end of an arm always scared me - other than the round pole, there's nothing to grab, and nothing to keep the head from sliding off. These are the answer I've been waiting for! There's a hexagonal cut at the end, plus there's still enough of the original rod cross-section at the very end to act as a keeper. Tighten the head in place and just adjust the rod from your grip head or stand, knowing that the light will maintain its angle. If it loosens a bit, it might wiggle, but it'd take a lot of loosening to be able to actually slide off the end of the arm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect Be aware the knuckle DOES NOT SLIDE, so you are at a fixed 40 length unless you have a second knuckle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All grip arms should be like this Grip arms are, by and large, almost all the same. The Kupo, however, has a hex head which makes it infinitely easier to attach a strobe directly to the grip arm and also makes that connection more secure. Given the value of a strobe and the risk of damage that would happen if it were to fall off because it wasn't attached securely, it is hard not to justify spending a tiny bit more to get one of these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality but needs a 2nd head This grip arm is quite strong, well-built, and the hex head works great to attach small flash & modifiers using a standard umbrella adaptor without them slipping or spinning. The caveat is that unlike with the normal (non-hex head) Kupo grip arm, the grip head is permanently attached to the END of the arm. This is not a pro or con really, just something you should know. If you use this included grip head to attach the arm to a C-stand, you won't be able to slide the grip arm through it to effectively change it's length. Look closely at the product shots of it in use and you'll see a 2nd grip head (not included) is used to attach it to the C-stand, allowing the normal grip arm length adjustments. In short, great product but it should come with a 2nd grip head to be useful. In fact, I'm not sure I'll ever use the head that is attached to the end of the arm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful variation on a classic This is just a standard, good quality grip arm with the improvement of a hex stud on the end. I am one of the many photographers torn between nervously attaching strobe heads to the end of standard grip arm (which is just smooth tubing) and getting a cumbersome and expensive boom arm. Boom arms are also a pain when you are travelling for a job. This hex arm winds up being a decent compromise-- portable and light, but a little more secure than a standard arm, and the hex means that it's easy to angle a strobe without worrying that it'll slowly slide down. I've used it with an Einstein strobe with Photek Softliter. Another route is to use a standard grip arm and add a standard stud to the grip head/knuckle. That works, too, and it offers a little more positioning flexibility. But it's also more fiddly, and I find that the knob on the grip head sometimes gets in the way. A note: while it locks as tightly as any other grip arm, if you are putting any kind of load on the end, I really recommend using this on a real c-stand and counterbalancing with a sandbag. I found that the Matthews boa bag is pretty nice if you're looking for something compact and don't mind spending a little more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Grip Arm ever. The best ever. The grooves at the end of the arm make this the best ever. You never have to worry about slipping heads. Once tightened, there is not slipping.
