Kupo Grip Arm Overview

With a black powder-coated finish, the Kupo 40" Hex Grip Arm with Big Handle has a 2-1/2" grip head mounted on the end of a 40" piece of steel tubing, which is 5/8" (16mm) in diameter. The surface of the tubing is machined to create a rough texture to ensure a non-slippery surface. The 2-1/2" grip head consists of a pair of rotating aluminum discs attached to a 5/8" (16 mm) receiver. The discs have 4 different sized V-shaped jaws to accept any accessory with a 5/8, 1/2, 3/8, or 1/4" mounting stud or tubing.

The V-shaped jaws feature teeth that securely grab whatever is mounted between the plates securely. The 2-1/2" grip head features an oversized ergonomic T-handle and dedicated roller bearings designed for maximum torque. At the end of the 40" grip arm, you will find a baby hex-pin with 6 milled flat surfaces.

You can mount your light fixtures or accessories on the end of your grip arm like a mini boom. They won't rotate due to the set-screw of that fixture or accessory, locking onto one of the sides of the hex-pin. The grip head uses a non-slip aluminum friction disc that maintains its durability over time, offering the user positive locking strength and precise control. The grip head is constructed around a solid steel central bolt with a fixed solid pin to secure it to the aluminum casting for increased strength and durability.

The hex grip was a great upgrade for my C stand. Attached modifiers now stay in place and no longer sag.

I purchased two of these based on the recommendation of another photographer (John Gress) who has a great video on how to build backdrops multiple ways. I travel a lot and needed a quick way to create a back drop while conserving space since my gear list is ridiculously long. They worked perfectly, and took up minimum space compared to my other backdrop equipment. Very satisfied!

I wanted a grip arm shorter than 40. I chose this Kupo product not only because of its shorter length but also for the flat that is cut at the end for mounting items that won't spin. The grip head is fixed. The black finish is even and looks to be durable.

I use this product along with the Krupp 40" Riser C-Stand, it works very good when it gives me the extra three feet of reach. Just be sure to use weights to keep it from tilting over.

The best there is

No brainer! You get the best knuckle grip there is- extremely strong arm and hex at the end!! Only downside of this would be that the grip on the arm doesn't undo. I wish it came with a knob so I could move it along the arm if needed.

It's great

Just make sure to not go too crazy with the weight of the things you attach to it.

Strong and solid piece of grip. Owned many over the years. Will highly recommend KUPO stuff. This piece in particular has a good history and will be a repeat buy.

the only c stand arm you should even consider

Having the solid grip WITH spring release means day in and out usage is so much easier than other grip arms/heads. Gone finally are the days of using two hands to pry open the grip head- spin this and the grip head springs open. Also, the hex baby pin at the end is a must and every arm should have this. Kupo thought of it all- I bought tons of these and their Mini arms!

The load capacity is not rated. In almost every case it will be the stand that determines the load limits of the grip arm.

Manufacturer does not specify a weight rating. It is a steel arm and knuckle. In most cases the stand will be the weak link for load rating.

how much weight does it support? can it be used as a boom?
Asked by: Juan Pablo
While extension grip arms do not often list load capacity, the approximate load capacity for a 40 inch extension grip arm would be approximately 10 lbs. It can be used as a boom for lightweight items or light fixtures.

question

Its the included grip fixed to the end of the pole? Or can it be removed or moved to balance the pole??
Asked by: Anonymous
The head is fixed to the end of the rod. It can accommodate another baby pin, rod, etc. This part is intended to be attached to another head mounted on a C-stand. The rods position can then be adjusted by use of the second grip head.
