Canon XA10 Overview

The Canon XA10 Camcorder Master Starter Kit from B&H provides a basic shoot-ready camcorder package suitable for a seasoned pro or a well-prepared novice. The kit consists of the XA10 HD Camcorder, two 64Gb SDXC cards, a USB 3 card reader, a large capacity battery, a compact battery charger, a camcorder bag, a UV Filter and an LCD Hood. The XA10 Camcorder while ultra compact, is fully featured and has a 1/3" 1920 x 1080 pixel CMOS sensor. The camcorder shoots at frame rates of 60i, Native 24P, 24P (records 60i) and 30P (records 60i). The camcorder comes with a professional 10x zoom lens (35mm equivalent 30.4 to 304mm) with variable powered zoom rates. The camcorder utilizes the AVCHD codec for professional quality compression and increased recording times to the internal 64GB flash drive.

The two built in SDXC card slots on the camcorder accept SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. The included SDXC cards provide for almost limitless recording time and the flexibility to bypass the camcorder's internal flash drive for recording. Insert one card into each slot and start recording to the cards. When the first card fills up, you can start recording on the second card. Download the data off the first card while you continue to shoot on the next card. By using the cards this way there is no need to stop shooting while downloading. A USB 3.0 card reader that accepts SDXC/SDHC and Compact Flash cards is included to provide additional downloading options.

The large battery pack allows you to keep shooting while charging the battery that comes with the camcorder. By using the AC/DC charger you aren't forced to stop shooting to use the camcorder to charge the battery. You can even charge a battery from your car's cigarette lighter socket as you travel between locations. The camcorder bag provides a safe way to carry your equipment, and is the right size for this camcorder and accessories. A UV filter is often overlooked when purchasing a camcorder, although it is a valuable addition providing protection to the front element of your lens and reducing UV contamination which can wash out your image. The LCD hood is a great tool for shooting in daylight conditions, providing shade from either glare or direct sunlight which can make a flip out LCD viewfinder virtually useless.

question

I am wanting to use this camera in our church to feed the service (video and audio) into our nursery using the HDMI out. Audio will be fed from the sound board into the XLR inputs on the camera. Will this work? Would it be a clean image on the HDMI out (no camera info showing)? At times we may record at the same time, but mostly it will just be a live feed directly from the HDMI out.
Asked by: Anonymous
Yeah. All of these things will work. You will need to go into your settings and turn off the info display on the hdmi out.Recording while sending video won't change anything on the feed. We've had no issues with these cameras in out church service.

question

Can I connect my sound board to this camera so that we can record audio and instruments directly to the camera?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes you can. I use the mic feeds to collect the audio then 1/4 inch TRS to XLR on the camera.

question

Does this camera shoot digital still photos?
Asked by: Anonymous
you can take snapshots with it, but its not great for photo. For nearly the same cost you can get the Canon EOS7d that is a top quality camera for photo and tasks DSLR Video as well. I have 2 Ax10 Cameras, a T5i (just for Video) and a 7D, I am simply a fan of Canon

question

How can I use this camera to project live on a larger tv with sound without it actually recording on the flash or SD cards? And can I record audio and video on a different media devise at the sametime?
Asked by: Anonymous
The XA10 has an HDMI out jack, connect it to an HDMI capable monitor (or a big screen (HDMI) TV) and you can see and hear what the camera can see and hear (real time, no delay). The camera must be on but recording is optional. As far as using a different recording device... yes, but you'll have to Google the setup necessary to connect it to a computer or other recording device. There are many ways to do make this happen and we don't know what you have. Suggest: I have 3 XA10 Camera's I download all footage to FCP and rotate camera shots depending upon what is best at that moment, then render and upload to You-Tube. I hope this helps.
