One of ikan's best field monitors, the MD7 7" High Brightness 3G-SDI Camera Monitor is among the brightest 7" monitors available on the market -- 1100 nit -- and accompanying this brightness are several features that are just as outstanding: dual 3G-SDI inputs switchable by front panel buttons with about a second of lag time; a set of various markers that can help Steadicam operators narrow down their shots, and these markers can be made thicker and thinner and selected in different colors so not to conflict with backgrounds; 2K resolution support, very useful with more and more cameras moving toward 2K; an 800:1 contrast; a mini XLR power adapter that can't accidentally be pulled out; an all-metal body only 1.3" thick; support for Anton Bauer, Panasonic D54, Sony L, and V-mount battery plates; and the advanced Waveform, Vectorscope, RGB Parade, and VU Meter.

ikan MD7 Overview

Brightness can manually by a dial or automatically by Auto mode, which activates at the press of a front panel button. By means of a sensor (which is to the upper left of the screen), Auto mode detects the ambient light around the monitor and adjusts brightness accordingly, up to the maximum 1100 nit, which is enough to shoot outdoors without a sun hood.

Additional to the SDI inputs, connections include a 3G-SDI output, an HDMI input and output, and three RCA ports that can be used as one Component input or as three Composite inputs. The SDI output can be used either as an SDI loop-output or as an HDMI-to-SDI converted output, which would enable you to output an HDMI signal to an SDI monitor 300 ft away. An audio input jack is available for separately connecting audio if your video is being input by Component or Composite. Also available are a headphone jack, a tally input, serial update ports, remote control ports, and a USB port for firmware updates.
