Cokin CH150B72A overview

  • 1Description

The Cokin 72mm PURE Harmonie Variable Density Neutral Gray Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing a reduction of about 1 to 8 stops. The 0.3 to 2.4+ (ND2-ND300) density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that each represent one stop of neutral density.

The EVERCLEAR 5 Coating Technology is a multi-layered anti-reflective coating applied to the filter substrate in order to maintain effective light transmission and suppress surface reflections and flare. Additionally, the coating provides protection against five distinct elements: water, oil, dust, soil, and scratches.

This optical glass filter is set within a thin aluminum filter ring, which measures just 9.5mm-thick. This slender profile is ideally suited for use with wide-angle lenses in order to lessen the likelihood of vignetting.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
ND 0.3 to 2.4+ filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1 to about 8 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Filter does not affect coloration of the image.
Anti-reflective EVERCLEAR 5 multi-layered coating helps to protect the filter from water, oil, dust, soil, and scratches, in addition to maintaining image contrast and reducing lens flare and ghosting.
Thin aluminum filter ring measures 9.5mm-thick, making it ideal for use with wide angle lenses in order to prevent vignetting.

    Cokin CH150B72A reviews

72mm PURE Harmonie Variable Density Neutral Gray Filter is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good filter for the money I was torn between this filter and the higher quality variable filters 3 times the price. The salesman at B&H convinced me to try this filter and if it had issues to just return it. I took his advice and so far I've been happy with the results. I've done multiple tests at all 8 stops looking for issues with soft edges, vignettes, etc.. So far I have not had any problems. I am happy with the filter and I am going to keep it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Totally satisfied I put my filter to the test at the Seattle Olympic National park by taking images of waterfalls and creeks. The filter does do the job that I wanted it to. I know some folks say that it does not work at the max ND setting. Not true, you need to ensure for the max setting that the arrows line up. If you are off by a little bit, you will get some artifact that has nothing to do with the filter performance, you simply are not using it as intended at the max setting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from MODERATE HAZE SHOWING INSIDE LAYER OF THE GLASS I have contact the company to request instructions on how to open this variable filter as right after my first shooting (it was not even a humid environment) a moderate amount of haze has shown up on the inside layer of the glass and while other brands have conveniently place notches to open it whenever the inside layers need to be cleaned, it seems impossible to open this one. I am waiting for a reply to further update my review.
