The Sony FDA-V1K Optical Viewfinder is an external viewfinder for use with the Sony Cyber-shot RX1 compact digital camera. Featuring Carl Zeiss optics, this viewfinder provides a bright clear view that matches the angle of view of the camera's built-in 35mm lens. An optical viewfinder is especially helpful for finding and tracking of fast-moving subjects.

It is constructed from die-cast aluminum and attaches to the camera via the multi-accessory shoe.

FDA-V1K Optical Viewfinder is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding This isn't an EVF, so the framing will be off, especially during close/macro shooting. That said, the frame lines are compact enough to ensure that none of the action is missed on the actual image. The glass is crystal-clear and due to its design, one should never need to wear glasses. I have not missed a shot using this product-everything has been in focus, including shallow depth-of-field portraits (a tribute to the RX-1). The case is first class. The only things missing are a bubble-level system and a magnifier to read the f-stops off the lens barrel, al la Hasselblad SWC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best current 35mm optical viewfinder I am a advanced amateur photographer/enthusiast. I love to shoot full frame 35mm film as well as digital cameras. One of my favorite cameras is the Sony RX1r. The only drawback is that it does not have a built in viewfinder; the electronic viewfinder or an optical viewfinder are accessories. With a few exceptions (notably the Fuji X-T1), I don't like electronic viewfinders. I have a Leica SBLOO 35mm viewfinder which is the best optical viewfinder I have ever used but viewfinders like this have not been made in decades. So I opted to try the overpriced Zeiss 35mm for the RX1r and purchased one from B&H. I was not disappointed. The viewfinders built solid and is clear, contrasty, bright. It does add bulk to the camera but it's not like the RX1 is a pocketable camera anyway. It comes close to the Leica viewfinder. There aren't many current options anyway. The Voigtlander viewfinders are good but comes nowhere near Zeiss quality. I am happy with the purchase and the usual fast B&H service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't help enough to justified. The FDA-V1K Optical Viewfinder just doesn't justify me purchasing it. It should at least have a center cross hair to approximate the center focusing point. You have to guess where center is to focus and recompose. It's too hit or miss for me. It is a beautiful piece of glass but mine had a tiny gouge on the framing rectangle. Should have been perfect for a Carl Zeiss Optic.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing misfit for this camera. I have been eagerly awaiting the beautiful Sony DSC-RX1R, for its magnificent images and portability. I am a serious amateur with numerous L lenses for the Canon 5D mkiii, and frustrated by how many times I left it home because of the hassle of carrying around this heavy equipment. But in bright daylight I still had to shoot blind and had hoped this Zeiss viewfinder would be a good as the Zeiss 35mm distagon I use for my Canon. But this viewfinder does not display any of the data that most photographers want to have in a viewfinder. I could even accepted it if it only provided a focus bracket. so instead of shooting blind because of the sun, I had to discover that this very expensive gadget left me equally blind to shoot with guesswork about the focus. when I used the screen to get preliminary exposure settings right I would have to take my eye up to the viewfinder to see how it looked, but no guidance from the viewfinder. it is a lovely piece of expensive glass that would be nicer to look at in the dark than to photograph with in the light. Get an electronic finder.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Collector or enthusiast only Has the retro-cool factor going for it, and good optics. It's a shame there's no digital overlay.
