Sony FDA-EV1MK overview

  • 1Description

The Sony FDA-EVM1K Electronic Viewfinder is an external EVF designed for use with the Sony Cyber-shot RX1 compact digital camera. This 0.5" XGA OLED finder has a 2359k-dot resolution and 100% coverage for high image clarity and detail. The OLED design helps to keep motion blur to a minimum, making it ideal for monitoring and tracking of moving subjects. This viewfinder attaches to the camera via the multi-interface shoe and offers an adjustable 0-90° viewing angle to support shooting from multiple positions.

The benefit of an electronic viewfinder is that you can instantly see the effects of camera adjustments as well as other necessary shooting-related information for an overall more efficient workflow.

    Sony FDA-EV1MK reviews

FDA-EVM1K Electronic Viewfinder is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Indispensable but very expensive I have been using cameras with viewfinders in them since 1963 perhaps. For a long time the lack of a viewfinder ruled out a compact camera before I even looked any further. But I needed the other specs of the Sony Cybershot RX100M2 so tried it without a viewfinder. It is a good camera, no doubt about it. An almost perfect second camera. But I did miss the viewfinder. Having ordered one (it's a ridiculous price, almost as much as a good compact camera all on its own) I find it really excellent and I hope to forget how much I had to pay for it. It works very well. Automatically switches between LCD and viewfinder. Is bright. Full frame. Displays all the info you need. Has a diopter adjustment. The angle is adjustable. It's small. Detachable. Comes with a cute little case. Now if I could only get a $200 rebate on it I'd give it 5 stars plus. It's overpriced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great EFV - expensive but worth it Really useful product for composing and when shooting in bright light. I am used to SLR type cameras, and really like the option to use the viewfinder. THe brightness is a bit misleading, but it does allow composition in bright sunlight, which I find useful, especially when travelling in South Asia. A minor downside is its hard to find a camera bag that is small and will store the camera with its EFV mounted. I will look for one, it takes a bit away from the RX100 II's slimness, but the added functionality is worth it.The major downside is the price - its expensive for sure. However, its also seems to be commanding a good price on reseller markets, so you can get it and then sell if it you are not using it - but I bet once you get it, you will use it all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to RX1 For the first year, I used my RX1 without the EVF. Having now acquired the EVF, I consider it indispensable. It transforms the camera. The image is clear and bright, and all necessary shooting information is available but not cluttered. My EVF fits securely and I have no concern that it may be knocked loose. I do wish, however, that there was some way to lock it in the collapsed position, as the rubber eyecup tends to catch on clothing, the camera bag, etc., causing the EVF to extend to a more vulnerable position.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The EVF makes the RX1 useable The Electronic View Finder for the Sony DSC-RX1 adds a significant dimension to the camera that gives me the full fledge DSLR replacement I was looking for. The EVF is bright, easy to use with glasses, and has an easy diopter adjustment. I find myself thoughtfully composing the frame with the EVF. A worthwhile addition to the RX1. I give it 4 stars as I would have liked Sony to incorporate this function into the camera rather than an add-on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completes the DSLR replacement The viewfinder allows me to leave my EOS-1DX in the case many times now. The sensor and T* lens combination are already better than the best full frame cameras but the lack of eye-level finder slows things down. I waited too long to buy this. It is expensive, but so is the camera. I could not recommend this finder more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better than the optical viewfinder I have struggled for many years to get daytime shots in bright light. the lcd screen in most cameras becomes more of a reflecting mirror and many's the time I simply shoot blind and hope for the best. I recently splurged on the Sony RX1r, but the optical view finder was disappointing on this beautiful camera which is otherwise a joy. I exchanged it (Thanks B&H) for the electronic view finder (Sony FDA-EVMiK)and have been very happy with it. With the optical view finder none of the metadata, etc were visible. But worse yet the AF tracking info was gone too. Now I get sharp focusing brackets and sharper images. this screen lights up when you put the camera right next to your face. the optical view finder activates in the same way but with my face pressed to the view finder I could not refocus since I would have to take my face away to look at the lcd screen. that would be ok in very bad ambient light. Happy to say that problem is solved with this great view finder. I would gladly have paid the difference for this electronic view finder but the other good news is that this one is cheaper than the optical. the arm connecting this view finder to the camera is conveniently jointed so there is the possibility for a variety of positions vis a vis your eye and the camera. you can even hold the camera at waist level this way and look down into the now horizontal plane of the view finder with the lens facing straight ahead. if there is any complaint I have it is that it is becoming so useful that I am reluctant to go out with my camera unless the viewfinder is attached. this makes the camera a bit larger bot, there are plenty of cases out there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful but very expensive A very helpful piece of equipment, it greatly enhances the overall shooting experience. You must be careful with appendage accessories that get clipped, screwed, snapped or otherwise affixed to the top, bottom or sides of cameras, it could be bumped, or knocked off and damaged.
