Enhance your workbench or lab with Celestron's Handheld Digital Microscope Pro. This compact magnifying tool offers handheld and stand-mounted operating options. Using the included wide stand with a metal rod, it allows you to adjust and secure your working distance and the horizontal position of the microscope above your samples. The base also provides two pre-loaded clips to hold your slides or flat samples. With its 5.0MP imaging sensor (capable of capturing still images and videos), infrared-reducing 5-element glass lens, and an 8-LED illumination ring, you capture bright and crisp high-resolution images and 30 fps videos. Optimized for 3D examination of larger objects, this kit also can be useful to study miniature artifacts by bumping up the magnification power. The effective magnifying power depends on the size of your monitor and can be increased up to 800x. The device also provides a wide angle of view, an unlimited focusing distance starting from 0.4" (10mm), and an integrated USB cord shutter control.

Can the camera software be called via command line to trigger the camera? Or is there a published API for triggering the camera with custom software?
No, the Handheld Digital Microscope Pro is only designed to work with the software Celestron recommend/supply.

do you offer a microscope for stamps & coins? Magnification should be 1.0 or less. Anything greater requires image stitching.
We currently do not offer a digital microscope with 1x magnification at this time.

I read that the Celestron 44421 can run on Ubuntu 15.04 using the cheese software. Anyone done it with this model?
The Celestron Handheld Digital Microscope device does not offer manufacturer support of any Linux version.

Is the light source close enough to the lens to view the bottom of a 1 deep 1/2 wide hole?
Remove post replace with 1/2 inch copper pipe to a height of your choice, I use 12 inches, adds much more flexibility.. Ask B & H to release my email address. Peter W.

i have the mic/scope what all is needed for this to work on my computer?
I just plugged the scope into my Apple computer, which powers it up. There's a CD for software to install. Also works simply with Apple's PhotoBooth. I'm still learning, haven't studied it in detail, but it's a nice device.
