Celestron 91519 overview

  • 1Description

Engineered and optimized for astrophotography with mid-sized optical tube assemblies (OTAs), the Celestron Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount delivers the performance required for clear images through the use of dual-axis low-cog DC servo motors and backlash compensation. Added to this are encoders on the motors and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC), which help to improve positioning and tracking precision and ensure your target object stays centered for long-exposure photography techniques. Supporting the mount is a large 2" stainless steel tripod that has a wide stance for stability on most terrain and a center tray that holds 1.25" and 2" eyepieces and accessories and acts as a leg lock to further stabilize while helping to minimize vibrations.

The brain of the system is the NexStar+ computer controller, which is equipped with a database of over 40,000 objects, including the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and the complete Messier catalog; it can also be programmed with up 100 custom user-defined objects with filters to create custom object lists. Its intuitive menu-driven user interface makes observing the heavens fast and easy; features such as guided tours, extended information on 200 popular objects, and multiple alignment options make the NexStar+ controller an invaluable tool to new users and experienced stargazers alike.

    Celestron 91519 reviews

Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Mount but not perfect Was easy to setup and stable. It's a heavy mount but not to heavy that I can't carry it. It's not as accurate as I'd hoped though. I took some 1.5 minute exposures and still have movement across the shot. Looks like I will need an auto guider as well. On the downside the very first time out with it I had a bootloader error which required reflashing of the firmware. This can only be done through a serial port connection to a computer. This doesn't make any sense because serial cables are an out dated technology. They don't provide a serial to USB cable with the mount either. They did send me a free one through the mail though after I complained but this meant I couldn't use the scope for another 2 weeks while waiting on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Unit I have not spent a lot of time under the stars using this mount yet, but have been able to use it during the day for solar observations and have spent time with it inside, familiarizing myself with it's operation. It is a solidly built unit. I am using with with a Televue Pronto 70mm refractor, which works out great for this scope. The alignment process is straightforward and simple to do. It tracks accurately. The hand controller that came with the unit is a newer version with a mini USB on the bottom instead of an R-232 plug, which makes it a lot easier to interface with my laptop. I am able to control the mount/scope using the laptop and Stellarium. For the price I think it is a great mount if you don't need it to carry a huge amount of weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice balance between size and ease of use. Awesome Equatorial mount. I used it to record the entire Great American Total Solar Eclipse August 21st, 2017, from start to finish. Nice construction, very sturdy. Very manageable. I am only mounting a GH4/5 with a telephoto lens (400mm Canon) and a 2x teleconverter, but the counter weight is adjustable to get the balance perfect. I recommend purchasing the Polar Scope to aid in Polar Alignment. The price is extremely reasonable for the quality of the product. 5 Stars + https://youtu.be/5bpdDMvnU9o

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Mount I was using the Nexstar mount before and I moved into video astronomy. Even though the goto was accurate the tracking was never good for video astronomy. That was why I upgrade to this mount. I was up and running in about an hour after opening the box. I was reading the manual well before it came. I did a quick alignment with Starsense and used the ASPA. After which I was able to keep the star in the center to close to 150 secs without any guiding. This is an excellent mount. Also the shipping from B@H was really fast. I got the mount in 4 days from the time I placed the order.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased with mount I purchased my setup locally so can't comment on the supplier. This was my first ever GOTO mount so took me a while to figure out how to use, but seems fairly straightforward now. Everything worked correctly out of the box, I have not had any problems requiring return or exchange. Last winter was very cold and the battery connector cable broke at one of the ends, so had to be replaced. Mount started ticking at some point, resetting to factory settings and re-entering all the local time and location info solved the problem. I am using with a Celestron Edge HD 8 SCT, doing some DSLR and video cam astrophotography. When fully calibrated with 6 stars, the GOTO is quite accurate except for objects at extreme horizon. The added PreciseGOTO makes it even better, typically desired object is centered in low power eyepiece. I have not been able to do better than 30 second exposures without autoguiding, I think the mechanical tolerances of the mount machinery are about at their limit there - still this is sufficient for some nice pix of brighter DSOs with a dozen or more such subs. I think this size scope is the weight limit of the mount, you can put the 9.25 inch SCT on, but with camera it may overwhelm the motors. This mount was my size limit due to back problem for carrying heavy things to and from car and house. Overall am very happy with mount for gazing and intro photography, not sure if adequate for serious photographers - maybe with autoguider but not sure how much more weight it could take vis-a-vis a big guide scope. In any case I am in urban setting so skyglow limits my observing, scope has shown me everything the sky will allow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Surprised Been running meade fork mounts, and they just don't cut it, needed something better for my etx90 and lx90, as wwll as my sigma 300mm on the canon, and was hoping this fit the bill. The lx is just so heavy, and just not very solid on the wedge, this is so much better, rock solid mount. and easy to setup being in two pieces, three with the scope. The lx fork and scope were just so heavy, and made me hardly use it anymore, this is a dream with the two pieces being separated, three with tripod. Using this setup is really so much more than I expected. The tripod is huge but not any more heavy than the lx90 tripod without the wedge. I can actually use my equipment again. Alignment is so much easier too, who cares about polar alignment when you can align with 6 or more stars. Thought I would need something much heavier to use my 8 inch lx90, boy was I wrong. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice update of Adv. GT but problems First mount powered up once then went dead and was returned. Replacement works but threaded hole in mount head to attach tripod not tapped deep enough. I had to add washers to allow use. I like real time clock and improved mechanics knobs etc. but miss bubble level. Dec. drive makes odd noises some positions. I have not evaluated tracking ability for astrophotography. Recommend with reservations do reliability concerns.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I am very pleased so far I have not had a chance to use this yet, due to weather conditions. My only complaint is with Celestron and not B&H. I do not like there saddle clamps, they make terrible marks on your dovetails. I think this could be improved. They do serve their purpose, your scope will not slide out on you, but the marks and little divots are terrible. As always B&H service is fantastic and I will continue to purchase from them as I have the last 30 years.
