Celestron 93436 overview

  • 1Description

The 2.5x Luminos 2" Barlow Lens from Celestron extends the effective focal length of an optical tube by 2.5x. This telescope accessory features a fully multicoated optical path with four lens elements designed to improve color fidelity and transmit a field of view that is flat from center to edge. The eyepiece holder is threaded to accept 2" eyepiece filters and will accommodate 1.25" and 2" eyepieces; brass compression rings secure the eyepiece without damaging the barrel's finish. The aluminum housing is finished with an anodized hard coat for enhanced scratch and corrosion resistance.

4-element lens system

    Celestron 93436 reviews

2.5x Luminos 2" Barlow Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent 2.5x Barlow Optically this is a fine Barlow; I do not give it 5 stars because of a fit and finish problem with the included 1.25 eyepiece adapter. (This problem was not with the Barlow itself. The 2 inch setscrew on the Barlow itself is fine.) The adapter set-screw that you tighten to hold in 1.25 inch eyepieces would not screw in tight enough to secure 1.25 eyepieces. The problem was the chrome plating on the brass knurled knob set-screw threads had not been sufficiently cleaned up and were too tight. I ran a threading die over the threads and that fixed the problem. The threaded hole in the adaptor for the setscrew was tapped correctly, and other 4mm bolts screwed in just fine - the lapse in Quality Control was the need to chase the threads on the chromed set-screw. This is a nice product. I want to see Celestron keep their quality up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Awesome Through my 8 newtonian, on a hazy night in the city, Jupiter went from gray cloud bands (using my cheap 1.25 2x shorty barlow) to distinct orange and white colors! And it's surprisingly light-weight for how solid and hefty it seems. The only problem I've had with it is the brass compression ring doesn't want to let go of the adapter and some eyepieces. For the price it's fantastic and I think it'll be a member of my arsenal for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Barlow Built well, clear, w/ the 19 mm EP made for great view of Jupiter and 3 moons through my 8in reflector.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strong and Short This product is mostly used with Luminos eyepieces but other eyepieces work just fine. The construction is solid but short. This is an advantage sometimes but not always. I have a longer 2X Barlow that I sometimes use instead of this shorty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to any astronomy equipment I have two 2 eyepieces (42 and 35 mm) which now with this 2 Barlow gives me 4 eyepieces. Good eye relieve especially with anyone who wears glasses. Looked at Saturn in my 8 Newtonian and was able to see the rings clearly. Held the eyepieces securely and was easy to switch out each lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ~ Well Constructed & Versatile ~ A little expensive but seems to have been constructed with quality. I'd rather have one high quality lens / barlow than five cheaply constructed optical "weak-links" in a viewing system...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Barlow Nice lightweight barlow for use with 2 inch or 1.25 eyepieces. Minimal dimming when used with my 28mm Explore Scientific eyepiece, nice color correction as well, overall nice for the price.
