Celestron M2 overview

  • 1Description

The angled-viewing Regal M2 80ED Spotting Scope from Celestron combines a high-transmission optical path with a nitrogen-filled magnesium-alloy housing to deliver reliable imaging performance at low light and in unforgiving weather conditions. At the core of the Regal M2 are fully multi-coated optics, including BAK4 prisms and an extra-low dispersion (ED) glass objective that minimizes chromatic aberration and maximizes light gathering. Multiple layers of Celestron's proprietary XLT coating on each lens preserve brightness and transmit contrast-rich images to the eyepiece.

This version of the Regal M2 spotting scope includes a 20-60x eyepiece that is ideal for intermediate- to long-range glassing. The broad magnification range, comfortable 20mm eye relief, and twist-up rubber eyecup make this zoom eyepiece well suited for long-duration observations. The scope's standard 1.25" eyepiece mount will accept most astronomy eyepieces, which enables a near-infinite number of optical configurations.

Complementing the image quality and weather-sealed construction of the Regal M2, several features enhance the scope's functionality and observer's user experience. An included T-adapter ring permits DSLR camera mounting to the objective assembly, transforming the 80ED into a high-transmission digiscoping platform. The rotating tripod collar has a 1/4"-20 mounting socket and is detented at multiple positions to provide the observer with alternate viewing orientations. A sliding sunshade, sighting aid, and dual-focus mechanism equip the Regal M2 with the functionality needed for a wide range of outdoor glassing applications.

    Celestron M2 reviews

Regal M2 80ED Spotting Scope with 20-60x Eyepiece (Angled Viewing) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended I have been in business for just over a year as a professional birding guide for IndiGo Birding Nature Tours. I have also been president of our local Audubon chapter. Celestron provides me with equipment for my clients to use, and I am often asked what optics I recommend. I have no reservations about promoting Celestron equipment. Other birders often comment about the superior image this scope produces: clear, bright, and sharp. It's relatively lightweight, easy to use, and handles the elements well. I had a hard time keeping the scope from getting loose on the tripod head at first, but super glue has solved that issue. I would also agree with another reviewer that the coarse focus knob is a little tight. Overall, the price, image, and ease-of-use make this scope a tremendous value!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Regal viewing After considering the Vortex Razor for three times the price and after actually using a vortex I decided to save the extra $1200 and purchase the Celestron. ED glass objective and magnesium body, very usable case, what else can you ask for. It's as clear as the vortex but slightly longer by about an inch and slightly heavier. For the money you can't go wrong.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid inexpensive spotting scope I bought this scope for birding. It's bright and clear. It can't match the high-end scopes at the upper end of its zoom range, but the image is still quite good. It's rather long, but is surprisingly light for its size. Both the coarse and fine focus knobs turn smoothly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Scope and Great Value I use this scope for F Class shooting and scoring, Can't fault it. Compares favourably to other scopes on the range, better than the Leopolds on the line and even better than the swaro 65mm objectives on the line - great adv in the 80mm objective I suppose. Gives best performance at 48-52X mag. At 60X the mirage can tend to be a killer. Great service from B&H and I'd recomend this scope and business to other without qualification.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great scope at a good price The scope is solidly built and comes with a good warranty. Build quality seems good, and I have had no issues so far. Images have been bright and crisp all the way up to 60x, even in the evening or in shadows. I'm considering getting another eyepiece to allow up to 96x or maybe even 120x magnification for looking at planets. The T-adapter works great with my Canon DSLR. Only downsides are that the scope is a bit on the heavy end, and the sighting slot isn't all that useful (though it is better than nothing, I suppose).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent piece of equipment! I bought this scope for a junior on the rifle team I coach, the cleraty is just as good as my Kowa, at half the price. It is a rugged, dependable and easy to use optic. The team has three of them on the line and they get beat up a lot and keep on doing there job, I would recommend this scope to anyone looking for good optics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice scope Nice scope with tons of features , really like the fact that you can rotate the eyepiece around without having to take it off the tripod also the built in sun visor is really useful . Also comes with a quality padded protective carry case that can stay on while you using it in inclement weather

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am very happy with ths This spotting scope fits my birding requirements, the image was brighter than I expected and proved useful even at the highest magnification. The coarse focus knob is a little tight but can be used with one finger easily.
