Sigma 19mm f/2.8 DN Art Overview

  • 1Description

A comfortable wide-angle field of view along with a compact design, the black Sigma 19mm f/2.8 DN Art is a sleek and portable prime lens designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Its optical design incorporates three aspherical elements, which greatly reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for notable sharpness and highly accurate rendering. A Super Multi-Layer Coating is also featured and minimizes flare and ghosting for heightened contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions. Complementing the optics is a Linear AF motor, which realizes smooth and quiet autofocus performance, and a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Wide-angle prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 38mm equivalent focal length.
The f/2.8 maximum aperture strikes a balance between being bright enough to suit working in available light situations while also promoting a lightweight, compact form factor.
Three aspherical elements help to control spherical aberrations and distortion to help realize greater sharpness and more accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Linear AF motor achieves especially quiet and accurate autofocus performance that is suitable for both photo and video applications.
Brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Sigma 19mm f/2.8 DN Art Reviews

19mm f/2.8 DN Art Lens for Micro Four Thirds (Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lens, great little price! So far I'm really liking the 19mm Art lens. Nice field of view and sharpness. Used it for bird shots, landscapes, and night photography. Great walk around lens! Some of my photos taken with it will be publishied in a regional mag I write for next month. Thinking I will also get the 60mm sometime soon. All of the little nit picks others have talked about are non issues for me. Manual focus is fine and no mount issues or bothers with the off-line clunking. Really great for the price and come with a case and hood. What's their not to like about this lens?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, Slick, Light, Efficient, Affordable & Very Usable on I've owned and extensively used this lens for about 5 and a half months now. This is the sharpest lens for the price on MFT mount I've ever used. I use it on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, which most people know has a 2.88x crop factor. This 19mm on the BMPCC still feels fairly wide-normal. If I hold the BMPCC out with my arm selfie-style with this lens, I can actually frame myself in a basic closeup. You couldn't get that wide with most lenses on the BMPCC. I tested the lens out in Bodega Bay, Point Reyes lighthouse, in Lake Tahoe, and all nature and human subjects I've filmed look very sharp, even wide open which is refreshing. Zero barre distortion. I haven't noticed any chromatic aberration either, even punched in. Build notes: Mount is metal, the lens itself feels like it's mostly plastic. But very high quality. The lens is very light which is great for transportation in smaller bags. The only real complaint I see is people saying the slick focus ring is unusable. I've had no problem. If you don't focus with the tips of your nails or after eating pizza without wiping your hands, you won't have an issue: 1.) Is it odd? -Yes. 2.) Was it worth the cosmetic slick design in terms of function? -No. 3.) Does it really cause any problems? -No. 4.) Should you focus your lens with unclean pizza hands? -NO. You get my point. One thing to mention: when it is off (not electronically contacted with the camera body) there is a component that goes dormant in the lens. When you tilt the lens while it is disconnected, you will hear said component shift inside. It's supposed to do that. It's weird and annoying and naturally makes you cringe a bit, but if you don't treat your lens like a maraca you'll be fine. In conclusion, I highly recommend this lens to any BMPCC user. Definitely worth the price and unexpectedly very sharp. Definitely gonna look into the other Sigma models similar to this lens that are different focal lengths.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens So much better then the kit lens. Very well made and sharp. Lens comes with a lens shade and a padded case. I will be buying the the other 2 in this series foe sure. Fits real tight on my m10. Do a google search to see the unique way to fix this problem, it really works!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once I figured it out ... I really like this lens.  Well, once I decided to stop hating it.   I spun it on my Olympus OMD and thought this is a wide angle?.  It looked like a zoom lens.  Pics were sharp, but my kit lens has more wideness.  Then I thought I wonder if I accidentally toggled between 1x and 2x?.  Which ... I did. Once I got the camera to gather everything possible, it was great.  Very nice wide angle, no blurring.  Very light and feels solid.  Im still getting used to a prime lens., but I like this one.  A lot.  Just remember that 2x button, if yours has one.  :-)
