Sigma 30mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The black 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras from Sigma is standard length prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras. Its focal length is equivalent to a 45mm lens in the 35mm format and its minimum focus distance is 11.8" (30 cm). Its f/2.8 maximum aperture is ideal for shallow depth of field imaging and allows it to maintain sharpness in low light situations. An inner focusing system means the lens does not extend when focusing and its newly developed linear autofocus motor is accurate and quiet. Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture, and with two glass molded aspherical elements including a double-sided aspherical element, aberrations are kept to a minimum. The result is accurate color definition and sharp imaging across the frame. A metal exterior provides durability and handsome design.

Standard length 30mm prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras with a 45mm focal length equivalent
Maximum aperture of f/2.8 is effective in low light situations and able to create lovely shallow depth of field images.
Inner focusing system and linear autofocus motor for efficient, smooth, quiet and accurate focus.
Two glass molded aspherical elements, including a double-sided aspherical element and Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes aberrations and reduces flare and ghosting for sharp, high contrast images.
A brass bayonet mount has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use.

    Sigma 30mm f/2.8 reviews

30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 101.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lens!! I purchased this lens, along with the Sigma 19mm f/2.8 DN (Sony E-Mount), and was actually very impressed with the quality of it. I'm using this lens in the Sony a6000 and between the 2 sometimes I can't pick which one I want to leave out the house with and experiment with for the day. The lens actually produces some very crisp and clear photos. The center is also very sharp wide open. I'm not saying the corners aren't sharp, but they're not dull either. It produces a nice photo all around. I'd definitely reccomend adding this lens to your repertoire. You can't beat it for the price. I picked up this lens cheaper than its original price so that made it even more worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Starter Lens! I bought a Sony a5100 a few months ago, so I began looking for a lens to accompany my kit lens some weeks back. I didn't want to go too far out, as I'm still practicing my photography skills around my college campus. After doing my research I settled on this one. It's budget friendly (three thumbs up for my college budget) and delivers high quality photos. I used it for my organization's induction and banquet and everyone LOVED how their photos turned out. I think if you're looking for your first prime lens, this is an AWESOME option!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good performance + great price = great value I bought this lens for my A6000. It feels vey solid and focuses quickly. Resolution, contrast and color are excellent. Sharpness is really impressive, including in the corners. There is moderate chromatic aberration. Perhaps the biggest challenge is to remember that this lens is not stabilized and keep speed at 1/125 or faster (easy to do by simply bumping the ISO up a bit, say from 100 to 125-160. Most serious annoyance is the screw-on plastic hood which falls off vey easily. Overall, a great buy when one wants to keep things simple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite lens on my new A6000 I used to think of Sigma as just another third party lens maker and not necessarily one of the better ones. Boy, have things changed. This lens is SUPERB. Yes, it's light and it does have that loose lens element when off the camera. However, it performs as well as a lens priced three times more. This little thing is a jewel. The images it produces are colorful, contrasty, sharp, with wonderful colors that pop. Very Zeiss-like in the sharpness and contrast department with colors on the warmer side. And, unlike all of those lenses Sony has made in China or Thailand, this is made in Japan by a small family company. I put a Hoya multi-coated digital pro UV filter on it and couldn't be happier with the performance. I thought I'd buy this lens until I could afford either the Sony 35mm f/1.8 or the Sony branded Zeiss f/4 16-70 zoom. Now I can't imagine parting with it. Sigma, you've come a long way. Well done. And at this price, it absolutely cannot be beat. If you've got an A6000, buy this lens for it. You'll love the results. My highest recommendation. And I'm usually a lens snob. Sigma...who knew??? I'm a convert. Need you to make a normal zoom lens with OIS now, please.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb lens for the price Having used nothing but zoom lenses for a very long time, I now have added two primes: the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and this Sigma 30mm f/2.8 for my Sony NEX-7. I believe these two primes are, for the money, the two best lenses available for Sony NEX cameras. This Sigma can be compared to the Sony 35mm f/1.8, which costs more than double what the Sigma costs and is a little larger/heavier but also is a little faster and has image stabalization. I don't think image stabalization is all that important for a fast lightweight 30mm lens, nor do I regard f/1.8 as all that more valuable than f/2.8 for these focal lengths. Others may value things differently. But in any case, the IQ from this Sigma lens is way higher than my expensive zooms when set to the same focal length. This Sigma has superb image quality, it is both lightweight and small, and very inexpensive. Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strange noise but sharp I use it with Sony a6000. This lens is much sharper and faster than the standard 16-50mm that comes with the 6000 as a kit. It certainly comes closer to exploiting the real possibilities of the a6000 than the kit lens. It may not be the best lens available, but considering the price, it is a very good deal. It makes a disconcerting rattling noise if you shake it (gently) or when you turn the camera on, but the auto-focus works without fail. I would recommend this lens to anyone who has the a6000 body.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice lens, but be aware.. I bought this lens for my Sony A6000 after research. I use it as a walk around lens for street and candid shots. It works well and is a good size. The image quality is good and focus speed is also good. One thing I wasn't aware of is that it doesn't utilize all the 179 focus points like the Sony 16-55mm kit lens. Although, I'm not sure that is all bad. I'm still getting used to the camera, and I notice when using the kit lens and using wide are focus, the lens focal pints will hunt all over the field of view, which can be annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sharp lens for the price I'm an amateur photographer. I have the Sony a6000 and came with the kit lenses. The kit lense is okay but not great with sharpness. I'm mostly using it for short distance and portrait shooting. The sharpness of this lense is incredible, especially because of the price. I would definitely recommend for a lense to start off with
