Sigma 19mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The silver 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras from Sigma is a wide-angle prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras. Its 35mm focal length equivalency is 28.5mm and its minimum focus distance is 7.9" (20 cm). Its f/2.8 maximum aperture is ideal for shallow depth of field imaging and allows it to maintain sharpness in low light situations. An inner focusing system means the lens does not extend when focusing and its newly developed linear autofocus motor is accurate and quiet. Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture, and with three glass molded aspherical elements, aberrations are kept to a minimum. The result is accurate color definition and sharp imaging across the frame.

Wide-angle 19mm prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras with a 28.5mm focal length equivalent
Maximum aperture of f/2.8 is effective in low light situations and able to create lovely shallow depth of field images.
Inner focusing system and linear autofocus motor for efficient, smooth, quiet and accurate focus.
Three glass molded aspherical elements and Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes aberrations and reduces flare and ghosting for sharp, high contrast images.
A brass bayonet mount has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use.

    Sigma 19mm f/2.8 reviews

19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Silver) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 96.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Lens for a6000 Panoramic Photos I was in Washington DC. on a symposium and used this lens for indoor & outdoor photos of capital hill offices and architecture, Monuments, and churches on my down time, and it worked best in class. Better than the Sony10-18mm f/4 OSSor Sony16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS as all the shots where extremely sharp and detailed, including the panorama shots that previously where completely unusable with the lenses above. Let me define unusable, the other two lenses make a blurry panorama with minimal detail and very little sharpness. While the sigma makes very sharp panorama and they have loads of detail even in low light indoor situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knocked My Socks Off A few months ago I bought a Sony A6000 with the kit lens (16-50mm) from B&H. Primarily for street photography, the camera is excellent for my purposes, but I was not completely happy with the kit lens. I read a few reviews about the Sigma 19mm, watched some videos about it on YouTube, and, since the price was so low, I decided that I couldn't pass it up.The sharpness of my photos, even at f2.8, is amazing! It compares favorably to the Nikon lenses on my D610. I bought the Sony for a backup camera to the D610, but, with the new Sigma lens, I'm finding that I carry the Sony around as much or more than the Nikon. They're both terrific cameras, but, if you're into street photography, you won't find a better lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice work-around lens I bought this lens for my sony A6000 camera. It seems that the phase detection AF is not working but the af speed is satisfying, especially for such a wide lens that do not require a high speed. The weight is its most advantage. 150g is quite light and is easy to carry around. F2.8 is a relatively large aperture and can deal with all kinds of environment. The center of the field is really sharp from F2.8, which is the open open aperture. At F8, the lens can produce really high resolution and is perfect for landscapes. The price is pretty reasonable for such performance. The only drawback maybe that this is a fixed prime lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Pickup! I purchased this lens, along with the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 DN (Sony E-Mount), and was actually very impressed with the quality of it. I'm using this lens in the Sony a6000 and between the 2 sometimes I can't pick which one I want to leave out the house with and experiment with for the day. The lens actually produces some very crisp and clear photos. The center is also very sharp wide open. I'm not saying the corners aren't sharp, but they're not dull either. It produces a nice photo all around. I'd definitely reccomend adding this lens to your repertoire. You can't beat it for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased With Results I purchased this lens to use in low-light environments where flash and tripods are not allowed. I tested it out at the Toledo Museum of Art. A special exhibit by sculpture Jaume Plensa was perfect for this test. This artist has given permission to photograph his works. The sculptures were strategically lit and the result was an almost sepia-toned environment. His sculptures incorporate many typefaces and I was pleased the Sigma lens, mounted on a Sony A6300, auto-focused quickly and accurately. It was a joy to work with and the results were excellent. The attached photos required almost no post-processing, just what was needed to convert them from raw to jpeg. I also used this lens outside and appreciated using the wide-open aperture to blur distracting backgrounds elements behind some of the outdoor works. This lens will stay in my bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great E-Mount Lens Great Lens. Sharp. Crisp. Contrasty. Colorful. The three Sigma primes for the E-mount, while not having OIS, are the three best performing lenses I have for my A6000. Only the Zeiss Touit lenses can match them them for sharpness and color. My bar has always been Zeiss. I've owned several Zeiss lenses. These little jewels are up there with the Zeiss primes in terms of quality imaging and they bring out the true capabilities of the 24mp APS-C sensor in the A6000. Better than any of the E-series zooms, of course. Now they just need to develop a low-light OIS version like the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OIS and a competitive normal zoom and they'll own the market. They are that much better. I couldn't believe it. And, paired with high quality Hoya multicoated filters (also made in Japan, like these) they produce wonderfully colorful images a touch on the warm side, which I like. I shoot raw and develop in Lightroom. Very, very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Sharp lens, fast autofocus and small for streetphotogra I have been sharing great images from the Sigma Art 19 mm with my photography friends showing the sharp images from this lens on the Sony A6000 shot under good lighting and at night, One image was shot at F3.2 handheld at iso 800 and was so surprised to see deep DoF for this large aperture opening. Three of my friends so far have also purchased this lens based on my sample images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lens for the money I am pleasantly surprised on the optical performance of this lens. I can now shoot RAW on my NEX-6 which I couldn't do with the Sony 16-50mm kit lens because no lens correction profile is available on Aperture. The distortion on this lens is minimal therefore it doesn't need to be corrected by software. The metal exterior is a nice touch too. Another plus is the battery now last longer on the NEX-6, it must have been the silly power zoom feature on the kit lens that was draining the battery.
