Vanguard 283CGH overview

  • 1Description

The Abeo Pro 283CGH Carbon Fiber Tripod with GH-300T Grip Head from Vanguard brings together two products whose hallmark is flexibility, versatility and light weight. The rapid height adjustment center column pans 360 degrees, and thanks to Vanguard's Multi-Angle Central Column system, allows users to move the central column from 0 to 180-degree angles in variable vertical and horizontal positions for leveling. The column and the legs secure with quick-flip locks. The legs, which are partially sheathed in foam for easy handling, individually spread to 25, 50, and 80 degree angles to adjust for rough terrain. The rubber feet are convertible to spikes for turf or shoes for snow or sand.

The GH-300T Grip Head has a built-in remote shutter release control that allows you to shoot without removing your hand from the grip so that you don't miss any of the action. The head features dual panning axis and a 72 click-stop panning base for seamless panoramic photography.

    Vanguard 283CGH reviews

Abeo Pro 283CGH Carbon Fiber Tripod with GH-300T Grip Head is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tripod for a Great Price!! So far I have used this for location and studio shoots and havent noticed any problems really. It is decently light weight and very sturdy for the price of this tripod. I usually hand hold most of my shots being that I specialize in studio lingerie or swimsuit shooting. I just find it easier to do. But the nice part with this is the pistol grip with the trigger button. Such an awesome feature to avoid the shake! If you want a great tripod and great piece of equipment for the price, this is the tripod for you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Articulate Tripod Bought for closeup macro work using the horizontal center column. The first weakness is the flimsy spring loaded button stopping the column from being pulled out. You must remove the column to reposition it. This can be done much better, both improving on the flimsy button that fell out on the first go and redesign the mechanics of tilting the column eliminating the need of physically removing the center column. Besides that the tripod is a good travel tripod that will be used for extensive field shooting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best-ever! Wow, what a joy to use . I love the pistol grip GH 300T. Well made, sturdy and relatively lightweight. The feet are large and grab the surfaces it's placed on. Carbon fiber can not be beat, great finish and bubble levels are outstanding! Camera plate holds strong and will not slip. The height is perfect, since I am over 6ft. Load a camera with power grip, a telephoto lens and you have perfection. There are no cons about this unit. At only 31inches folded, carrying my tripod up a steep hill is easy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need a strong hand I've had it only 1 month -- used it only enough to test all parts working. The pistol grip takes a strong hand grip, with no available adjustment for the pistol grip tension. A heavy camera rig does help a bit, since you would already be used to the weight. The tension on the ball can be adjustment and seemed to work fine. With rubber strips on the camera mount and an included wrench to tighten the screw, I put a D810 with 18 - 300 lens and 910 flash at portrait orientation, with no noticeable slippage from the mount or the ball. The Multi-Angle Center Column will be handy. As the instructions say, make sure the extended rig is inside the reach of the legs, so the whole thing doesn't topple over. The legs can be adjusted to 3 angles. I found the mechanism on each leg (push a button to change the set angle) a bit difficult to manipulate -- I felt like I was wrestling the tripod. I will need to with the buttons a bit to make sure I am working them most efficiently. As others have said, this is a heavy tripod -- both good and bad. The included bag wil help if you have to trek a bit to your best photo op. The 3 types of feet are handy. I don't think I will buy a 2nd one buy will find use for this one at close by locations.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too much flex. The main feature we were looking for is the clamp style legs rather that twist. There are not so many carbon fiber choices like this. The features looked great, but once set up, this tripod was very springy and flexed quite a bit. Our other tripods are Gitzo (completely rigid!) and Really Right Stuff (very rigid also). All carbon fiber is not created equal. For that reason we had to choose a Manfrotto 55CXPRO4 and return the Vanguard. Some other things to note: It is heavy with the grip head and the value of this head, while interesting, will not be there for everyone. For long shoots with many shots, I expect hand fatigue as the grip is very stiff. For the price, I would have simply removed the grip and replaced it with a ball head, but the flex issue remained a concern. While some have pointed out that the grip head includes trigger cables for Nikon and Canon, the Canon cable is the mini-jack style (seen on Rebels) rather than the angled 3-pin version on the 5D and other pro models, so be aware that you made still need to order a cable to use this. The price was good on this tripod, but the amount of flex was something we weren't used to - maybe it doesn't matter, but for the long exposure type photos we do, we need a solid tripod that gives tack sharp images and we just couldn't risk it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Meets my requirements There are more stable tripods, but not at this price. Works for me under almost all circumstances since I don't do video. Love it!
