    M-Audio M3 Reviews

M3 Three-Way 8" Active Studio Monitor (Each) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loud and Clear I ordered these as an upgrade to a smaller set of 5 monitors that were getting a bit long in the tooth (and short on bass) for my needs. The pair absolutely blows away smaller sets without costing significantly more. Out of the box they are very clear and 'flat' (as expected of a monitor) and quite loud. So loud in fact I have to leave them around -12db to work in my relatively small room. For those that either need to make room specific tone adjustments or who prefer their audio a bit more on the 'punchy' or 'sharp' side of neutral, the built in 3 way eq gives you decent adjust-ability to more tightly track to your preferences/needs.While final output quality (or more likely brand emblem) might fall short of what you can get for 2-3x as much, the base quality and value on these is extremely high and more than enough for almost any small studio need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice This is my second pair of M3-8's. I think better speakers than these cost way over my budget limitations. I like the Ivory virtual pianos over these, never sounded better. The low end is smooth, a sub would help but it's not necessary to critically hear the full sound image. I think they are a sleeper buy for studio monitors, a real bargain for what you get. Every nuance is apparent. The highs are never brittle. Phase imaging seems spot on with clean stereo source material. I'd get another pair in a heartbeat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great midrange imaging. Love them. Spend some time positioning them in your room. I used an RTA to fine tune them so that they were really flat. When done my prior mixes sounded great and my new mixes sound even better. I love these M3's

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Let them ... brake in I was happy with my existing speakers (Tannoy Reveals 8) but I wanted a second perspective to switch to. So, I looked for something that had a different type of construction. At first (to my surprise) I was much more impressed by the bottom-end of the M3s, they seem to really get down-there. Then, I started tweaking the eq in the back. I wanted to like them without any eq ... but that was not going to happen. The Tannoys have a very sweet sounding tweeter and when I would switch back to the M3s they sounded harsh. Backing off the highs and mids seem to make them harsher still, so of corse I tried the opposite. Somethings are just counter-intuitive ... Somehow, adding eq to the top and mid made them smooth out and then adding a little bass brought them back into balance; who would have thought ... Still, I was sure I was hearing the plastic hood around the tweeter ringing somewhere between 3k & 5k. I even wondered if I should create a velvet shroud and glue it to the back of tweeter-hood! :o) However, after playing music through them for about a week everything just started to sound better and better. Now, two months later, the M3s have become my go-to monitors and I switch to the Tannoys to change my perspective ... I still have its eq engaged and seem to have found the sweet-spot on each of the three bands. Wow ... I feel like I'm getting-away with something, at this price :o)

    question

I understand the price listed is for ONE monitor yes?
    Asked by: Carl B.
Like most large 8 and over studio monitors, these are sold one at a time. Expect to spend around 600 to 700 for a stereo pair.
