Kaiser RS 2 Overview

With the RS2 copy stand, the user acquires equipment whose overall design is based on the use of lighter camera systems. The RS2 Copy Stand (#205411) is supplied with an approximately 15.7 x 19.7 x 1" (400 x 500 x 25 mm) non-reflecting, matt black baseboard with printed grid. The column is marked with cm and inch scales and the height is adjusted by a friction drive with nylon bearings (max. 30", 760 mm). The RS2 is supplied with a repro arm with 1/4" mounting screw to hold any of the lighter cameras on the market.

The 30" column is horizontally adjustable but does not feature either a counterbalanced arm or a pivotable head. By using a high level of modularization and a broad range of accessories, Kaiser can fulfill individual requirements.

NOTE: This set contains a 29" column and 16 x 20" baseboard. It DOES NOT include any lights.

Kaiser RS 2 Reviews

Works, but priced to rip off photographers.

Works, lacks features. Absurdly overpriced block of wood, bottom grade sheet metal and extremely light plastic on the handles. For the price there should be more adjustments on the arm and adjustable feet on the base. As a product engineer I would estimate manufacturing hard costs at under a $100 per unit easily depending on volume. So, keep that math in mind when you're deciding if you want to support a company like Kaiser.

It works

It is so simple, yet exactly what I need to digitize a bunch of old photos. Easy to put together.

It's not clear how a camera can be adjusted to be parallel to the board. What I see in the photos allows the camera to be adjusted left/right by rotation, but how to make sure the lens doesn't droop towards the column?

The Kaiser Copy Stand RS 2 with 29" Column and 16 x 20" Baseboard is supplied with a repro arm with 1/4" mounting screw to hold lighter cameras. It is very solid and unless you are using a very heavy camera which it is not made for it should not tilt forward.

Is this copy stand robust enough to support a Fujifilm GFX 50R, a 32-64mm zoom lens, and an extension tube, without wobbling and swaying? This combo weighs about 4.5 pounds. Can this stand handle that much weight and be rigidly solid?
Asked by: Bill
This stand is rated for 1.5kg or about 3.3 lbs.

Hello! Does anyone know the length from the upper surface of the baseboard to the camera mounting screw (which would approximate the focal plane of the camera)? I'm confused if 29" is it, or if 29" is the total height of the vertically adjustable arm. Thanks :)
Asked by: Patrick
The length of 29" would be for the entire column. Unfortunately, Kaiser does not publish the measurement from the camera mounting screw to the upper surface of the baseboard as the position of the camera mount can change.

If using this copy stand to scan B&W negatives, how woudl one insure that the camera focal plane is parallel to baseboard?

If your camera has a hot shoe, you may purchase either the Vello Three-Axis Hot-Shoe Bubble Level for Standard 35mm SLR Cameras, B&H # VEBLHS3, or the Vello Two-Axis Hot-Shoe Bubble Level, B&H # VEBLHS2, for your usage needs. This would allow you to ensure the camera is level both vertically and horizontally.

question

Your picture and description say that a camera arm is included, but the In the Box section and the title do not mention the camera arm. Is a camera arm included and if so, which one? Thank you.
Asked by: Carol
There is no actual arm in the box. Whats in the picture is all thats included. A rotating lever handle and a basic 1/4 thread and base plate for the camera to mount on (like your standard tripod)
