Kaiser RS 1 Overview

The Kaiser RS1 Copy Stand is a high-quality copy stand that meets special requirements for strength, design, and above all, angular precision. For large, heavy camera systems, an extremely low level of vibration is a must for perfect results. This requirement is satisfied with the RS1. It features a precise height adjustment system with weight compensation by an integrated coil spring.

The non-reflecting matte black baseboard with printed grid marking enables originals to be easily positioned. Reproducible precision is also guaranteed by the cm and inch scales marked on the especially wide, matte black anodized column made of a special aluminum tube.

For levelling the complete unit, there is a spirit level in the strong pedestal. The height is adjusted by a friction drive with nylon bearings and hand crank. On the RS1 copy stand, the RA1 Repro Arm ensures precise and sure fastening for the camera.

With the easily changed camera screw, you can mount any type of camera system to the repro arm. All you need is a coin to change the 1/4" screw to a 3/8" screw. The RA1 repro arm features four centering holes for the precise adjustment of the optional graduated stage and repro bellows.

The aligning pins fit exactly in the repro arm holes. In this way, absolutely parallel mounting is guaranteed at all times. The adjustment device on the RA1 repro arm enables any particular camera mounting position to be reset exactly at any time. It is adaptable to different camera bodies.

For 35mm cameras, this device is positioned so that the bottom of the camera is exactly level. For medium format cameras, the adjustment device is used as a stop for the side of the camera body. Fast changing is possible.

The large 18 x 20" baseboard has a fitted mount for fastening the column to the repro arm. A spirit level is integrated into the mount which facilitates alignment. The feet are individually adjustable in height. A well-marked grid completes the solid baseboard construction.

Bought it to do digital camera scans of my old negatives. The crank is very smooth and holds it position, doesn't drift. The crank came already on the column and attaching to the base was quick and easy. It have adjustable feet, my table was level so I didn't need to adjust them. Could not have been easier to set up and start using it

Very solid copy stand that is totally professional. It comes with a hefty price tag but I was able to get on a special offer through B&H.

This is made the way things used to be made, which likely explains the price. This is no Chinese $300 toy with cheap lights included - this is a top of the line German engineered tool that is designed to be used by professionals on a daily basis. This is museum-level stuff, and it shows. Everything about it exudes quality. Top notch and highly recommended.

This is an excellent copy stand. It is easy to assemble, solid and well built.  It is easy to use as the crank to adjust height is smooth but holds the camera in place very well.  It is easy to attach the camera and to both level the base and level the camera.  It has done exactly what I needed. I only wish Kaiser offered reasonably priced lights to finish out the setup.

This is a killer copy stand !!!!! I am using it to hold my Sony A7Riii and Sony macro lens. Its main purpose is to digitalize my film into scans. The stand is sturdy and has great shoot table attached, with a leveling bubble on the stand's column. It is right on my desk so I have attached my camera to tether cable, to my computer . I though it was a bit of overkill for my purposes, but it's perfect. I can just leave it up and not use my tripod. I am very impressed. It is expensive but so very nice.

Does the optical axis of the camera (35 mm Nikon or Canon) intersect the CENTER of the baseboard when the camera is pointing straight down? If not, what is the distance from the inner edge of the vertical column to the optical axis of the camera, again assuming the camera is pointing straight down?
Asked by: Colin
The mount can be adjusted so the lens intersects the center of the board.

question

We have a need to gang two extensions out from the post on this copy stand to accommodate large digitizing work. Does anyone know or have experience doing this with the available block expression pieces? Director at Yatespast dot org.
Asked by: JOHN P.
The columns cannot be attached one to the other and the blocks can be used to extend out but not by a lot. If you need it to be a lot it is best to discuss this direct with Kaiser.Email: [email protected]: http://www.kaiser-fototechnik.de/

Can a regular FF mirrorless body (e.g. Canon R5, ...

Can a regular FF mirrorless body (e.g. Canon R5, Nikon Z7 or Sony A7/A9) be centered relative to the baseboard? How about a pro level body (e.g. Canon R3 or Nikon Z9?)? The product images don't make me confident that this is possible when the camera is pointing straight down.
Asked by: Friedrich
@hectorm: This was not the question. The question is not about payload, it's about whether such cameras will be centered relative to the baseboard.

Will this carry the weight of a Fujifilm GFX 50R ...

Will this carry the weight of a Fujifilm GFX 50R and 32-64mm zoom lens without wobbling? This combo weighs about 4.5 pounds.
Asked by: Bill
I don't think that should be a problem. The stand is very sturdy and well made with great movement of the carriage on the column. I use a Nikon D750 usually with 55mm macro at 3.1 pounds, but also use the 100mm macro that is heavy with no issues.
