8" Rock Solid Accessory Extension Bar (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from ONLY ACCEPTS SQUARE 3/4 SHOES! It's very disappointing but this extension bar will not support my Canon flash, my Pocket Wizard, or my two brand new CN 126 LED lights, made by Neewer. However it does support my LP-Micro LED light and my Azden shotgun mic. Why? This extension bar only accepts SQUARE 3/4 shoe mounts. All my other devices have rectangular shoes. In 30 years as a professional photographer I never knew until this moment that shoe mounts come in different sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid - Seriously After doing a bit of research, this was pretty much the only 8 metal hot/cold shoe extension bar on the market. I'm using it to mount both a shotgun mic and LED light onto my camera. The LED light has over 200 LEDs, so a 6 bar would have been too short. However, after looking into a bunch of different extension options, pretty much everything out there is made of plastic, which would tend to sway a little bit. Using everything on a Glidecam, so I need a bar that is solid - this is it! The bar is pure metal and I don't see any bending/warping/etc. anywhere in its future. The only gripe I have is that it is a bit heavy, so my rig has gained QUITE a bit of weight (added to the light and counterweights needed for glidecam balance). However, I would rather have a SOLID component with a little extra weight than a flimsy piece of plastic to save a few ounces. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic product, only one complaint. I'm very impressed with all the Tether Tools products, and the Rock Solid extension bar is a great product. But as another reviewer mentioned, not all of your accessories will fit in the slot. This is because it only accepts square shoe plates. I discovered this when I tried to mount a Bescor FP-180 light to the bar, but it would only fit sideways. The fix was to attach the light to a small ball head, which then slid right into the extension bar. Overall, it's a great addition to my tool bag. I just wish all my accessories would fit in the rails without having to use adapters.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as rock solid as stated. Construction is all metal (aluminum) which is great however I found the locking of the rail position requires pliers to get it tight. I think the design is at fault here. The square nut that slides under the rail is much too small in relation to the track so it tends to allow the whole plate to move around. Simple solution would have been to make the square nut the right size for the track it slides on. All that said, I made it work for my application and seems adequate for the price point, but it is not Rock Solid as advertised.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for racking and stacking gear I put this on top of my Sony HVR-Z1U camcorder and it did the job, although there needs to be something in place to keep the bar from spinning on the 1/4-20 threads in the bottom. Similar bars have a second cold shoe channel in the bottom for mating. This one has three 1/4-20 holes spaced out. Without anything in place to prevent the spinning, your geat will freely swing unless you put in a lock washer or rubber washer to bind the bar to the lock ring of the transom mount.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Below expectations Rubish. I considered this unit when my Vello Brand extension bar was dismally flimsy and weak. I had high hopes, but on its first outing I discovered its achilles heal. The guid quality of the bar is good. Strong and sturdy with 1/4 20 holes located throughout. However, someone seemed to have skipped over the part where the big metal bar is being supported by the weakest screw. I loaded two wireless packs and a Zoom mixer atop the bar, and started testing its overall balance. The screw that holds the whole unit together is so weak that titling the camera back or foward to the extremes caused the screw to bend. Yes, the 1/4 20 screw bent. When I noticed this I bent it back to its normal position and discovered it was as flimsy as a bending a paper clip back. A huge let down considering the otherwise good construction of the bar. I did not send it back, but salvaged the bar itself and am using it with stronger bolts I found elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid is Right! I use this 8 Rock Solid extension bar on a Nikon D800. I was able to mount TWO small Rotolites and the Zoom H5n. I did need to use a small ball head to lift one of the Rotolites a little higher so that it wouldn't sit too close to the Zoom. Tightening down on everything keeps all gear solidly in place. I can recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get organized I bought this and several self adhesive hot shoe mounts to organize my devices and cables. I often shoot using a Camranger wireless tether device with either a Stackshot rail or motorized tripod head. This lets me mount all the devices and cables in some sort of order. A bit pricey but for us neat freaks, priceless.
