The Nightscape 8300 CCD Camera from Celestron is an 8.3 megapixel camera specially designed for astro-imaging. This digital imaging device uses a Kodak KAF-8300 CCD sensor to capture 16-bit color images that feature low-noise and broad dynamic range. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio and efficiency of the sensor, the Nightscape camera has a built-in cooling system. An integrated heat sink, regulated thermoelectric cooler (TEC), and adjustable fan transfer heat away from the sensor, resulting in better image quality by reducing thermal noise and improving the transmission of sensor data. Complementing the TEC is a 32MB SDRAM memory buffer that further improves the transfer of image data.

In addition to the imaging performance of the KAF-8300 sensor, the Nightscape 8300 camera also features multicoated SCHOTT glass optics that are optimized for astro-imaging. This lens system is engineered to enhance the transmission of the H-alpha wavelength while filtering infrared light that can degrade image quality. The Nightscape also has a built-in mechanical shutter, 2" threaded filter mount, and included AstroFX imaging software. AstroFX software allows the operator to control camera functions and process captured images using a Windows computer. The KAF-8300 CCD sensor, integrated cooling system, finely-tuned SCHOTT glass optics, and range of imaging features make the Nightscape 8300 well-equipped for capturing deep sky and wide field astrophotographs.
