Minox DCC 14.0 overview

  • 1Description

The black Minox DCC 14.0 Digital Camera is a miniature point-and-shoot camera that exhibits a classical 1950s German engineered design and a 1:3 scaled-down form-factor. The camera features a 14 megapixel CMOS sensor and is able to record both high resolution still imagery and standard definition video. The Minoctar 7.4mm, f/2.4 lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 43mm, giving a normal angle of view for use in everyday shooting situations. This magnification can further be increased to telephoto perspectives through the use of 4x digital zoom.

Both a built-in 2.0" color LCD monitor and a removable accessory optical viewfinder can be used to compose imagery, while the LCD will additionally allow playback and review of imagery as well as display camera and exposure settings.

Classic 1950s German design featuring a contemporary black-colored body and a highly compact form-factor.
14MP CMOS sensor enables both high resolution still image and standard definition video recording.
Minoctar 7.4mm, f/2.4 (43mm equivalent) lens has a fast maximum aperture to better-enable low-light photography, while the normal focal length is ideal for shooting in everyday situations. The lens features a five-element design with IR filter glass and has three fixed focusing positions: 1.64' / 0.5m, 3.3' / 1m, and infinity.
A 2.0" rear LCD monitor allows image monitoring and review, while also displaying camera settings. A detachable optical viewfinder is also included for image composition.
SD and SDHC memory cards are accepted up to 32GB capacity.

    Minox DCC 14.0 reviews

DCC 14.0 Digital Camera (Black) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good things come in small packages I love photography as a whole and own a number of cameras, from a LeicaM9 to a Olympus OM-D. I still have most of my old film cameras including a Minox GT-E. I purchased the DCC 14.0 to see what I could get out of it. I love landscape photography and own a large formal printer, HP Z3100 for printing. I have a particular scene that I photograph to test various cameras and lens combinations. I then print out 24 x 18 prints for comparison, sharpness, color, resolution etc. I did not expect to get this size print from the Minox but have produced a 19x 13 print that shows excellent resolution, color and sharpness, shot at f2.8 and 1/1500s. What a great little camera. My one grouse is the tripod socket thread. This must be the only camera in the world with a non standard 1/4 inch thread, probably 6mm metric which requires a special adaptor. This is real stupid, what were Minox thinking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Top Adult Toy I had seen this camera around for a while and thought it might be a good daytime walk around shooter. When I first opened the box and got it out there is a high WOW factor. It is probably as cute as any camera I have ever seen. Un fortunately it takes only fair pictures. If it took pictures on the same level as it is cute the whole world be buying this camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Minox DCC-14 Digital Classic Camera (Toy Camera) The Minox DCC-14 camera can make a decent photo if you have perfectly even and strong light, with no deep shadows or bright highlights in your picture. The DCC-14 makes JPEG-format files, but does not seem to have any facilities to compensate for imperfections in the image being photographed as do most modern digital cameras. In that respect, the DCC-14 is roughly equal I think to the early digital cameras from circa 1998. After a month of use and studying every aspect of the camera, the DCC-14 takes every photo with an aperture of f2.8 and an ISO of 200, leaving only the shutter speed as a variable for different levels of light. Low-light photos lose most shadow detail, and many or most daylight photos have severe color irregularities, but if you have a good photo editor, you may be able to at least partially compensate for those color imbalances. The DCC-14 has a real lens inside, with a proper anti-reflection coating, but the glass filter in front is apparently uncoated, leading to a lot of flare in the images. The DCC-14 cannot compete with any modern digital camera, even at the $50 level, for image quality and performance, but it can capture a decent picture if the user is extremely careful in composing and shooting, and has a good photo editor to fix the colors afterward. In my view, and compared to most low-cost pocket cameras of today, the DCC-14 is strictly a toy camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Minox DCC 14.0 Review By H. D. McClain Cute little toy. Not much good for anything other than to be a conversation piece. For you to get a good image you must be in very bright light such as sun light. IT is beautiful and fun and that is why I purchased it. It is a nice addition to my camera collection. It is not a serious contender for a camera. But I like it none the less.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would never buy this camera again. Quite often the pictures turned greeny. I contacted Minox Germany may times and got replacement 3 times. But all of them had the same phenomenon. The DCC 5.1 had no such trouble. DCC 14.0 might have some defects in its software. Anyway, I never recommend this camera to anyone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Classic 50's Design Brought Up To Date. A throw/back design brought up to date ALMOST. More of a toy than a complete camera, its fun to play with, and take pictures. The instruction booklet leaves a lot to be desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a little Gem! Fresh out of the box, first picture,it was yellowish too. Then I adjusted WB from AWB to Daylight. Result: A sharp perfectly exposed photo with correct color rendition. Will adjust to 0.3 EV. So what's the problem? No, it won't replace my DSLRs and MFTs, but I am happy with it and it will be happy with my other 5 Minoxes.
