ZeeVee ZvPro 280 Overview

The ZvPro 280 HD Encoder & QAM Modulator from ZeeVee lets you convert VGA or HD video input signals into digital cable channels and distribute them to an unlimited number of HDTVs over coaxial cabling. The ZvPro 280 accepts up to 1080p video from its VGA or component input and outputs 1080p/i, 720p, and 480p/i video signals. It features HD MPEG2 encoding up to 36Mbps, digital and analog audio options, and an RS-232 port for integration with standard control systems. It is rack mountable and only takes up 1RU of space.

The ZvPro 280 uses QAM RF modulation to turn an A/V source into a digital TV channel that is read by the digital tuner found in most HDTVs. To send the signal to additional TVs, you simply split your coax output by means of a splitter. You can send one coaxial output to hundreds, or even thousands of HDTVs by use of additional splitters. This eliminates the need for having a receiver box, signage player, or other video device at each TV in your facility.

The ZvPro 810 is ideal for creating headends in commercial settings which require a lot of displays, such as sports bars, corporate offices, commercial spaces, or other venues with existing coaxial cabling.

Simple Integration and Expansion
The ZvPro 280 allows you to use your existing coaxial cables to send HD channels to TVs with built-in digital QAM tuners. To connect to more TVs, simply use a splitter to send the signal to hundreds or even thousands of TVs. Because coaxial cables carry up to 135 unique HD channels, you can feed the output from additional ZvPro boxes into a splitter to simultaneously send multiple HD channels over a single coaxial cable.

To add a channel, simply connect a video source to the ZvPro 280, connect the output of the ZvPro to a "combiner" (a splitter used backwards), and connect the other leg of the combiner to the existing cable. Your digital channel is then accessible on that HDTV.

To add an HDTV, cut the coax cable near where you are adding the new TV, add a splitter and a new piece of coaxial cable, and attach it to the new TV.
A/V Capture
Two separate video input paths accept either VGA or component signals. This lets you connect a digital signage player, computer, DVD player, satellite receiver, set top box, or any other device with a VGA or component HD video output. The VGA input supports up to 1920x1080p signals, while the component input supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals. Video input selection is control via RS-232, IR, USB, or on the front panel of the device. Analog audio, digital S/PDIF, and USB audio inputs are available. All A/V inputs have looped through outputs, letting you pass your input signals on to other devices.
HD MPEG2 Encoding
The ZvPro 280 encodes video to HD MPEG2 at a sustained average of up to 36Mbps. It will encode PCM audio inputs and supports pass-through of the encoded Dolby Digital AC-3, Dolby E, and linear PCM audio. Digital and visual watermarking can be placed over the footage for advertising or content theft prevention.
RF Modulation / Channel Upconversion
Send a QAM 256 or QAM 64 6MHz channel to any blank channel for viewing on HDTVs with built-in digital tuners. The ZvPro 280 can send channels on frequencies from 50 to 864MHZ, or channels 2 to 135. A built-in spectrum analyzer scans the entire cable spectrum for other available channels. STD, HRC, and IRC cable standards are supported.
Configuration
Control and configure your ZvPro 280 via USB cable to a PC running ZeeVee's ZvConfig software. The software lets you set channel names, customize idle screens with your logo, and change the watermark in the lower right corner. You also have access to the command line interface for use with either the RS-232 port or USB connection.
Additional Features
  • No matrix switchers or proprietary wiring required
  • Combine with other ZvPro 280 units to distribute up to 135 HD channels
  • Closed captions supported with optional ZvCC module
  • Steel chassis with fan cooling and internal power supply
  • 1RU rack mountable
