Manfrotto 500A Video Head Overview

The MVH500AH Fluid Video Head with Flat Base from Manfrotto is designed with a wide platform, optimal for HDSLR camera bodies. Smooth and precise, it has a maximum load capacity of 17.6 lb and professional quality fluid cartridges on both its pan and tilt axes. Manfrotto 500A Video Head Reviews

Perfect for Mirrorless & Wildlife

Paired this with a Leofoto LS-324 CEX carbon fiber tripod. Altogether about 5 lbs, which makes it so versatile for taking on hikes for wildlife photography. I detach the handle, since I don't really use it anyways. (I don't do much video) Camera snaps on and off easily from the side with a simple lever. Takes 2 seconds to level, then locks on securely. I use it primarily with Canon R6 and RF100-500 lens and RF800 F11 lens. Head moves smoothly and easily. Buy this head with confidence - after all, it is backed by both Manfrotto and B&H.

Manfrotto, need I say more!!! I own, light stands, tripods, heads and so on. The brand is one of the best!! I just started making videos, and saw the reviews for this video head, they are accurate, the flow is smooth, easy to put together and again a great product, quite durable, very well built!!!

I use this for wildlife photography and videography paired with a Canon XF705 on a Manfrotto Carbon Fiber XPRO Video Monopod+. It is smooth and very if you're packing gear through the woods.

Works perfectly for lighter weight cameras.

I needed a light-weight low tripod head to attach to a car or truck window. This one works perfectly for my requirements along with the Silk Leveling Unit II.

This fluid head is so easy to setup and use. It's made my video footage look fantastic, even at 800mm equivalent. I have been able to follow birds in flight effortlessly with no jitter or lag.

I use this with Nikon Z9 and have been able to shoot at 90 degrees above the horizon with no concern my camera would fall. Great solid product well worth the money.

question

After tightening tilt knob would this mvh500ah droop with celestron C5 spotter scope and DSLR total 9LB 2oz? mostly back heavy so I would slide the plate forward.I want to attach 2 3/8 screws that need to be 2-3/8 inches apart center to center is that possible with slot length?thanks
Asked by: frank o.
Amazing head for the money. Surprisingly smooth. Have used it with a Canon 7D MkII + 100-400MM Zoom (MkI). Approx. 5.5 pounds total. Tripod had vibration (due to wooden platform, people, sea breeze, who knows,) but got Sea Lions with acceptable pan smoothness later. I think you have 5.5 lb. spring, plus can compensate by tightening head rated for maybe 11 lbs.

Does the Manfrotto 520ballsh 75mm short half-ball ...

Does the Manfrotto 520ballsh 75mm short half-ball work on the MVH500AH fluid head?
Asked by: Charles
Yes. I have the Manfrotto MVH500AH flat base video head attached to a Manfrotto 520ballsh 75mm short half-ball mounted on a 75mm half-bowl tripod. I do not use any adapter between the video head and the half-ball. The video head flat base is slightly smaller in circumference than the flat top of the half- ball but the three set screws in the half-ball to prevent slipping anchor just fine against the flat base of the head. The video head stays securely on the half-ball with no twisting at all. When attached, you have to look very closely to even notice the slight difference in circumference. Works perfectly to level a camera for both video and photography.

question

Will this work with the Manfrotto MT055XPRO3?
Asked by: Jorge G.
Yes, the head will work with that tripod because it has a 3/8 base not a 1/4-20. I own this head and it is very good with my Canon XA20 and a short shotgun mic. The fluid head needs to be matched with the camera you plan to use. Weight and fluid movement must correspond.

Anyone try this with a video rig 9-10lbs? How does it handle close to max payload?

Close to max, pretty well. It's actually oversized for smaller things, like DSLR rigs.

Does this head have a locking system to keep the plate from sliding out?

Yes, there is a locking mechanism in the head making sure the plate will not slide out. The plate is released by a lever on the side of the head.
