  • 1Description

The EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera from Canon is an APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. With 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion, an ISO range from 100-12800 (expandable to 25600), and Multi Shot Noise Reduction, it offers sharp details, accurate colors and low-noise imaging in both bright and low-light shooting situations. A 9-point all cross-type autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting with the viewfinder and Hybrid CMOS AF increases autofocus speeds when shooting in Live View. The Rebel T5i can continuously shoot up to 5 fps.

A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD with 1,040k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing. Its tilt and swivel capability makes it easy to compose your shots at odd angles and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Intuitive touchscreen operation includes Touch Autofocus.

Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24 fps is supported with Movie Servo for continuous autofocus during shooting. Manual exposure is provided in video mode and 60 fps is possible when shooting at 720p HD. A built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment is provided for quality audio recording with your videos.

Scene Intelligent Auto Mode automatically makes the optimal camera adjustments based on scene recognition, and improved scene detection is particularly helpful when shooting night scenes. Advanced imaging features such as Handheld Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control make capturing difficult shots easy, and seven Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can even be viewed in real time during Live View shooting.

The EOS Rebel T5i utilizes SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses.

Full HD Movie mode supports Movie Servo for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects during recording. Manual exposure control and a built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment provide high-quality control over your shooting, and multiple frame rates and resolutions provide quality-level and stylistic shooting options. The ISO range in Video mode is 100-6400, and is expandable to 12800. Stills can be recorded during video shooting simply by pressing the camera's shutter button.
14-bit A/D Conversion

Scene Intelligent Auto
Scene Intelligent Auto mode incorporates a number of Canon technologies to deliver the best possible exposure. Joining Picture Style Auto, Automatic Lighting Optimizer, Automatic White Balance, Autofocus, and Automatic Exposure, Scene Intelligent Auto mode analyzes the image, accounting for faces, colors, brightness, moving objects, contrast, even whether the camera is handheld or on a tripod, and then chooses the exposure and enhancements that bring out the best in any scene or situation.
Advanced Image Features
Handheld Night Scene mode makes it easy to shoot difficult night scenes without blur. By shooting and combining four consecutive shots at a shutter speed fast enough to avoid camera shake, Handheld Night Scene mode makes dramatic nighttime photography simple. HDR Backlight Control shoots three images of the same scene at differing exposures, and combines them for one expertly balanced image.

Canon Rebel T5i Reviews

EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera (Body Only) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 92.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great Macros and Movies. I bought this camera because I wanted to step up my photography skills, and because my old Canon Rebel Xt didn't take movies. I previously wanted a Canon 60D, but when I heard about the new STM lenses for movies, I also found out they were only compatible with the T5i. So I switched. The difference in taking movies with the STM lens is breathtaking. The lens silently tracks your focus subject, and allows you to lead your viewer through a story by clearly identifying the subject with intentional focus in each frame. I'm also getting great detail in my macro photos. The camera is very small and light, so it's easy to hold. The Canon IS lenses really make handheld shots possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Camera I bought this to upgrade from my XSi. It's a good camera and the ability to make movies is great. There are 3 problems with the camera though. The LCD display you see at the bottom of the viewfinder is dim. It's half as bright as the XSi, and if the sun is to your side or back, you can't see the camera settings. I'm going to buy an eye cup to see if that help. I wear glasses, so we'll see. Also, the buttons on the back are smaller than on the SXi, so it's harder to find them by touch and to see them. They are also almost flush to the body, so they are hard to find by touch and even hard to push when looking at them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Canon I am a long time Canon user. I upgraded from a TSi that I liked and this camera is much better. As you might expect, it is faster and much better in low light. I have not used the video yet, so I can't comment. The on-off button now includes a video option on the same circle. It has been difficult to remember not to push the on button to video because I am used to pushing an on-off button. They should have made a separate button for video. Took camera on recent vacation and it was easy to use and I have great pictures. I did not use kit lenses, so I can't comment. I still can't see the screen on a bright day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent in low light levels I decided it was time to update my dslr when I found myself preferring the images from my G15 over those from my Canon Digital Rebel T1i. I like taking pictures of people at parties without flash, and this body does it with ease.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Camera I used to have an original Rebel and was very happy with it. It finally died on me and was too old and no one would repair it. I bought the Rebel T5i because it was so similar to the old Rebel, but with a few extra bells and whistles and it got good reviews from B&H and CNET. I am very happy with the larger LCD screen and like the touch screen aspect. I really like the camera, but the only problem I have is when I use the video on auto focus you can hear the servos on the video. They can be turned off but you loose the auto focus option. Most of my videos are taken from a distance and I don't have a problem with not have the auto focus on. All-in-all, I'm happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyable and Handy I use this camera with Sigma Lens f 2.8, focal length 24-70mm. The things that I enjoy the most is that it has a rotating display which is very useful for video-shooting in the crowd, for example. Another feature I enjoy a lot is that you can modify your pictures with different effects, if you are shooting in live-view. Touch screen and depth of field preview add to the number of things that are enjoyable to play around with. In my case, shooting with a lens from Sigma, I detected a slight front focus which may require some professional correction. But all in all - I enjoy the product a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera for a Photog on a budget For a photographer starting out, this is a great camera to go with. For me, it was a chance to have a second camera and upgrade a little from my T2i. I've taken over 30,000 pictures with the T5i since I've purchased it and captured some incredible images. There are plent of features built in, and gives new photogs the ability to shoot in manual or automatic modes. The tilt out screen has been great too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this camera! Mind you, I did upgrade from an xTi so it is obviously a huge step. B&H shipped fast, and it is in perfect condition, at a good price.

I would like to reuse my existing Canon 18-55MM EF-S lens but am concerned that it will not work well with the video feature on the T5-i. I've never shot video because I'm replacing a Canon XTi. Am I over concerned? Is this camera covered by USA warranty? Thanks,Ken
Asked by: Anonymous
You will absolutely be able to use your 18-55mm EF-S lens on the Rebel T5i to shoot video. The Canon T5i is covered by USA warranty.

does shoot 1920 x 1080 stills?
Asked by: Anonymous
The T5i has a max resolution of 17.9 MP, which equals 5184 x 3456. Photos will be taken in the 3:2 format, not 16x9 which is for video mode. However you will always be able crop the photos to 16x9 in post production if you desire.

Having trouble finding a good external mic to use with the T51. Only internal on board mic works?? Any thoughts???
Asked by: Ron S.
skip the mic and buy a separate recorder and sync the audio. Zoom H6 or a Tascam model that is in your budget. I have a Tascam DR 07 mk II and it is fine.
