Canon Rebel T5i overview

  • 1Description

The EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens from Canon is an APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. It is combined with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens for an effective range of wide-angle to standard focal length.

With 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion, an ISO range from 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) and Multi Shot Noise Reduction, the Rebel T5i offers sharp details, accurate colors and low-noise imaging in both bright and low-light shooting situations. Its 9-point all cross-type autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting with the viewfinder, and Hybrid CMOS AF increases autofocus speeds when shooting in Live View. The Rebel T5i can continuously shoot up to 5 fps.

A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD with 1,040k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing. Its tilt and swivel capability makes it easy to compose your shots at odd angles, and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Intuitive touchscreen operation includes Touch Autofocus.

Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24 fps is supported with Movie Servo for continuous autofocus during shooting. Manual exposure is provided in video mode and 60 fps is possible when shooting at 720p HD. A built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment is provided for quality audio recording with your videos.

Scene Intelligent Auto Mode automatically makes the optimal camera adjustments based on scene recognition and improved scene detection is particularly helpful when shooting night scenes. Advanced imaging features such as Handheld Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control make capturing difficult shots easy, and seven Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can even be viewed in real time during Live View shooting.

The EOS Rebel T5i is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is paired here with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which offers wide-angle to standard focal length shooting specifically designed for APS-C cameras. It is equivalent to a 28.8-88mm focal length in the 35mm format, and its minimum focus distance is 9.8". This lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system, providing 4-stops of compensation for blur caused by slow shutter speeds when shooting hand-held in low light or at longer focal lengths. An internal focusing system provides fast autofocus, and with a Stepping Motor (STM) and six-group zoom system it supports the Rebel T5i's Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and quiet continuous autofocus during video recording. Manual focus override is possible. A high precision aspherical element reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for sharp imaging, and Canon lens coatings provide accurate color balance and minimal ghosting and flare.

Scene Intelligent Auto
Scene Intelligent Auto mode incorporates a number of Canon technologies to deliver the best possible exposure. Advanced Image Features
Handheld Night Scene mode makes it easy to shoot difficult night scenes without blur. By shooting and combining four consecutive shots at a shutter speed fast enough to avoid camera shake, Handheld Night Scene mode makes dramatic nighttime photography simple. HDR Backlight Control shoots three images of the same scene at differing exposures, and combines them for one expertly balanced image.

It even has correction data for a number of popular lenses stored in its memory. With the EOS Rebel T5i's chromatic aberration correction tool, distracting color fringing can be corrected at the time of shooting.

Canon Rebel T5i reviews

EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 184.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, capable camera for the money If you want a point-and-shoot camera, you can get that much cheaper. It works incredibly well as a point and shoot, but this is a very capable high-tech semi-pro camera. Beautiful, swiveling, high-res display, touch screen to rival a smart phone and full-featured. Lightweight body, lightweight kit lens is also a bargain if purchased as a package. It does not have an adjustable autofocus like the 70D, but is tack sharp accurate right out of the box. A little noisy in low light with zoom and no flash, but fine for 4 X 6 prints, or times when flash can be used. Beautiful HD video too. Would surely buy this camera again at the $ kit price. FUN!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon T5i: All I need in a DSLR The T5i allowed me to make photos at my granddaughter's dance recital, inside, moving dancers with no flash allowed. The 12,800 ISO combined with the fast shutter speeds stopped action with excellent results. I had tried to use my older Rebel XS last year and was determined to have good results this year. These new DSLR cameras are like all electronic devices in that they improve so fast that you are amazed at the capabilities of these lower priced units. All my previous lenses will work with this camera, which is a big plus. Be sure and order some frequently used lens filters to complete the package and protect your lens. The T5i is light enough to carry all day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great purchase Bought the camera a week before my trip and received it quickly with time to spare! I never had a DSLR camera before so I was nervous not having any prior experience but I found the camera easy to use and was definitely able to learn on the go. It sounds silly but I do recommend skimming or reading the manual as it does have many helpful tips. Only thing I wish I knew prior is you need a tripod for taking pictures on manual mode with a long shutter speed, but that's not B&H's fault. Overall very happy with the product and that a memory card and carrying case were included! Hope to visit the B&H store and get some more pointer soon!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera when shot single-sensor focus I shoot professionally as an outdoor magazine and newspaper fishing columnist and I need at least four spot-on focus shots. I never have to worry about this with the T5i which is a one-shot wonder. When my Sony A 100 finally died, I took a chance on the T5i and haven't looked back. The autofocus is super fast and both the camera and the kit lens are extremely sharp. My only criticism is that the 9-point auto focusing system always renders out of focus shots. The easy remedy is to use only one focus point such as the middle sensor. This way all your shots will be tack sharp. It works great with the 430 EX II Speedlite Flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Camera Prior to purchasing my EOS Rebel T5i I was using my Canon 7D as my sole camera for sports, travel, landscape and portrait photography. I was looking for a second camera and I was looking for something light and easy to share with my husband when we travel. This camera is perfect! And the kit lens is amazing. I've only used the camera with the kit lens because it's so light weight and the quality of my photos have been so great I haven't even been tempted to put one of my expensive heavy lenses on the T5i. The touch screen is super easy to use. My husband and I argue over who gets to use the T5i. I'm not sure I would have purchased my 7D if the T5i had been available 3 years ago. It gives me great quality photos for less than half of what the 7D cost me

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good entry level camera I am just getting into photography and I choose this camera over several recommendations on the t4i online. Since this was the newer model I opted for this one especially since I read it had an extra focus option while shooting video which is what I really want to get into with DSLRs. The menus are user friendly and the camera is easy to handle once you know what your doing. Always read the manual folks. I suggest for those new into photography to do your research on cameras before buying, learn about the different features different cameras offer, and what the specs mean in how you can take photos with them. I have no experience with other cameras so I can't point out any cons since I have nothing to compare to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Ultimate Rebel This camera is fantastic and the STM lens is very fast and quiet. I paired this with a 270 EXII flash and couldn't be happier. The Rebel line has come a long way and this flagship model earns 5 stars from me. Reasons I chose this over the T3i? Built in stereo mic and external mic jack, touchscreen LCD, Digic 5 and 5fps. I also purchased from B&H a SanDisk 64gb class 10 SD card with 95/mbs which is pretty much like shoving a small hard drive into this camera. The HD video is incredible. I only shoot video in 1920x1080 and it looks better than any camcorder I have ever owned. B&H is the only place to purchase this. They have the best price period and if you don't live in NY, there is no sales tax and typically free shipping. I LOVE B&H and the Canon T5i!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BUY IT REFURBISHED I've been making youtube videos for almost a year and a half, and finally decided to make the investment from my point and shoot to a nice dslr. The T5i is perfect for starters and video makers who want easy autofocus at a good price. If you have studio lights the quality improves from 1 to 100 real fast. I bought mine refurbished, and it came almost brand new. I saved a whopping $ I think. I was a bit worried that the auto focus would be loud in live view, but it is not! I can't even hear it focusing.
