20170 Tripod Microphone Stand (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Stand This is a standard microphone stand and there should be no surprises to anyone who purchases this stand. But the K&M line of stands is a little confusing to figure out the differences between the models, or at least it is to me. So I will try and describe the stand a little better than the K&M web site The folding legs hold their position, unlike a lot of other brands. That is, when you lift this stand to move it around on the stage, the legs do not flop around. This is a big deal---the other brands with the floppy legs are irritating to say the least. The center hub where the legs and center pole meet is pressed metal. The under side of the hub is hollowed out. I have another stand of similar design that the center hub is cast metal and weighs more. I have worked with a lot of other similarly designed stands where the center hub is made out of plastic. This stand is more sturdy than the plastic hub-type. While the hub is metal and adds some low-center of gravity, the version of this design that has a cast metal base add yet more weight to the bottom of the stand. So if you want lighter weight but solid build, the 20170 is the correct stand to choose. If you want very light at the expense of build strength or more weight for stability, choose something else. The K&M stands use a plastic sleeve for the telescoping clutch adjustment. I have seen this build on a lot of other similarly designed mic stands. It is possible K&M actually manufactures stands for other companies to place a brand name on the stands. I typically prefer the Atlas stand designed clutch that is made out of metal. Only time will tell if the plastic build will hold up for the long term. It is not like I intentionally abuse my gear, but items like folding stands end up bundled (and banging around) together. I will probably end up buying a few more of these in time. They seem to be the best value in solid built folding microphone stands. I would actually prefer to acquire stands with a heavier center hub weight to them, but to be honest, I have not figured out which K&M model that is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yes, I buy this again and do recommend it. The only complaint I have about this mic stand is the lower tightening bolt is not to effective. And I have two of them, that's why only four stars.
