Panasonic DMC-GF6 Overview

  • 1Description

The Lumix DMC-GF6 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Lens from Panasonic incorporates a new 16MP Live MOS sensor and a newly developed Venus Engine Image processor for sharp, high resolution, low-noise imaging with high-performance signal processing and start-up speed. Its multi-process noise reduction system and wide dynamic range are products of its improved image processor and enable clear, fine textured photos even when working in its 25600 extended ISO.

The DMC-GF6 mirrorless camera utilizes a Contrast Auto Focus system for accurate focusing and its Light Speed AF system with full time AF and tracking AF enables focusing on fast moving subjects. Newly integrated Low Light AF enables accurate focusing on your subject even in low-lit situations.

A 3.0" Touch Screen LCD enables Touch Focus, Touch AE (auto exposure) and shutter release with a simple tap on the monitor. The LCD is also tiltable to 180º for easy self portraits or other odd angle compositions. External light reflection is minimized because the touch panel is directly connected to the LCD without an air layer between them. Its 100% frame coverage provides color accuracy and high resolution.

The DMC-GF6 supports Full HD 1080 video recording and provides a one touch dedicated button to immediate start video mode. Both AVCHD and MP4 formats are offered depending on the level of quality you need, Built-in stereo audio recording is available in the AVCHD format as is P/A/S/M manual exposure control.

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to instantly transfer images to your computer or to your smartphone and tablet for easy sharing. And with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology all you need to do to connect camera to smart device is to touch them together. With Panasonic's free Image App you can not only transfer images easily but use your device as the camera's remote control and viewfinder, utilize your DLNA-compliant HDTV for image playback and have instant image transfer from shutter release directly to your selected computer or device.

A camera for every level of shooter, the GF6 provides full manual exposure control but also offers Intelligent Auto Plus Mode to allow the camera to utilize its numerous assist functions when analyzing the scene you are shooting. A Scene Guide features 23 sample images to match to the scene you are shooting and have the camera adjust itself to the proper settings. In addition, many in-camera functions allow you to create stylistic images: panorama mode, stop-motion animation, self-shot or enhance your images with Creative Control filters or Clear Retouch.

The DMC-GF6 offers compatibility with the full range of Lumix Micro Four Thirds mount lenses and is bundled here with the Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. lens. This lens has the 35mm focal length equivalency of 28-84mm and features optical image stabilization for blur-free imaging, even in low light. An inner focusing system driven by a stepping motor provides smooth and quiet auto focus and two aspherical lens elements enable extremely sharp imaging with minimal fringing and color distortion across the entire focal range

16MP Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine

Fast performance speeds, including 0.5 second start-up speed are provided as well.
3.0" Touch Screen Tilt LCD

    Panasonic DMC-GF6 Reviews

Lumix DMC-GF6 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Lens is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small, User-friendly, Powerful I chose the GF6 because of its small size in comparison to other mirror-less camera options. I wanted something small for traveling. The size is just one of many awesome features. The menus and interface are easy to master and quick to use. The button to switch to the fully automatic setting is priceless for quickly toggling between scenes or manual to automatic. The flippable display screen is neat though I haven't needed it yet. If you are choosing between the GF5 or the GF6, spend the extra for the GF6, it's worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Es una cmara genial!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice I bought this camera because it was on sale and I was looking for a relatively inexpensive (sorry GM1) Panasonic Lumix m4/3 that I could put either the 14mm or 20mm pancake lens on and drop in a cargo pants pocket for quick, easy transport. This camera does not disappoint, but I knew that before I bought it.I intend this camera for more casual use: I can take it hiking or biking and not have it take up too much space or add too much weight to my load. The camera is small but, for my use, not too small. The menu system and control layout is similar enough to other Panasonic Lumix cameras to be more or less familiar to me. I shoot a lot in Aperture Priority mode so the control for changing the aperture is critical to me. The aperture control on the GF6 is just different enough that it's taken me some effort to train myself to it. And, like the other Lumix cameras I've used, since the aperture control does double duty as the Exposure Compensation control, I've had to train myself to that as well. There are not as many control buttons on the top and back of the GF6 as there are on the more expensive Lumix cameras. That is not an issue for me: I wanted a less expensive, simpler, more casual camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it I am not a novice when it comes to cameras, but neither am I a Professional. The camera came to me well packaged and right on the projected delivery time with no damage. There is a lot about this camera that is totally new to me, but in spite of that, I was able to take really good pictures right out of the box. I would definitely recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product - Zoom is pretty small and you definitely need a better lens for taking pictures at a distance. - Focus in Macro mode is pretty tricky - WiFi is really great; you can use your smartphone as a remote camera, which is great for taking snapshots of birds and rodents and other shy animals that would otherwise require camouflage. It's range is sadly pretty limited, to about 5m for optimum performance. -You need some time to get used to all the features, but the automatic mode does a pretty good job when you need a quick photo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera Will use this camera To take nature photos as well as family & travel photos. Like that is is light weight and compact; very easy to take along anywhere. Like that it has auto features tonhelf with amatures like myself. Like that lenses are easy tonchange. The camera can do LOTS of stuff which is a little overwhelming. I do look forward to learning how the camera works and since it has auto features I can still take great photos while I learn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera, at a great price I've been impressed with the image & video quality so far. There are many settings on the camera that I have yet to tinker with. However, the intelligent auto has been a great guide. I am better with hands on experience, so I prefer to learn as I go. Shipping was quick & the box was not damaged. I am a repeat customer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Satisfied so far... I have used this camera for a month on family holidays and company events. I bought this camera to replace a dslr with a more compact and easy to carry camera. Eventhough it is not really a compact camera it does take much less space than the dslr. At the beginning I found myself looking for a viewer but slowly getting used to the screen. It's brightness, anti-glare coating and HD make it pretty friendly to use even at the beach with strong sunlight. The focus is quite fast. The only delay I have noticed is when I take several pictures 3-4 with a flash when it takes a second or so to charge up. The battery lasts a full day of good use but could use a little more power. I still don't know if I will stick with a mirror less or move back to my dslr but so far I am satisfied and getting used to it. By the way I am looking for a case to go with it but have not found something I like. I am slowly getting used to the interface and using the different scenic modes but

    question

Does this come with the newer slim lens or the older longer lens? The item title states 14-42mm F/3.5-5.6 II and I believe the II denotes the newer lens, but the picture does not reflect. (The new one closes in on itself like the Sony Alphas, while the old one is much longer and fixed length with two rings of ridges)
    Asked by: Anonymous
Panasonic makes three lenses that are 14-42. The one in the kit is in the middle. It is not the pancake version which is the shortest and it is not the longest. The version ii that comes with the kit is Approx.49mm / 1.9 inch (from the tip of the lens to the base side of the lens mount). The pancake lens can be seen at this link but it does not come in the kit, http://bhpho.to/1odw1j4

    question

Hi,I just purchased the Canon EOS M with the 22mm lens and was bummed to learned it does not zoom. Does this camera zoom with the lens that's provided? Also, does the LCD screen tilt and if so can you face it towards yourself to take selfies? I am going on a road trip and will most likely not have an extra hand in taking photos so it would be a huge plus if I can see what im taking a photo of!Thanks for the help!
    Asked by: Anonymous
The 14-42mm lens is a zoom lens. The LCD is nor a swivrl/tilt screen.
