StarTech HD2VGA Overview

Run the video and audio signals from select laptops, extenders, and devices direct to a VGA projector or monitor with this HDMI to VGA Converter from StarTech. Designed to allow users to display presentations and documents on a VGA projector or monitor, this converter features an HDMI port supporting all devices with an HDMI interface. It also has a 3.5mm audio output so you can separately run audio since the VGA output is only capable of passing video. You can run up to 1920 x 1200 resolution video signals, including Full HD 1080p.

This converter requires no power source, as it gets its power from your HDMI source, but because it converts both video and audio, the power coming from your HDMI source may not be enough, depending on the source. For this reason this converter also has a USB port for supplementary power -- whenever your HDMI source doesn't provide enough power, just plug in a USB cable running from your computer, or connect a USB power adapter, and you'll have sufficient power. Everything works plug-and-play with no setup required. This converter is very compact and an easy accessory to carry in your bag.

question

Will this work on a dvd player to connect to a projector?
Asked by: Anonymous
Technically, yes, it could work, but it all depends on the resolution and frame rate your DVD player outputs. If your DVD player outputs a 1920 x 1080/ 60i video signal, then this converter should recognize the signal and converter it to VGA. However, if your DVD player outputs a standard definition or 720p signal via the HDMI connection, this will not work.

Hello, I have to connect my vga laptop to my new hdmi TV. This will work ok? thanks
Asked by: Matias Manuel
This actually goes in the other direction. You would need something like the KanexPro VGA with RCA Audio to HDMI Converter, B&H # KAVGARLHD, instead. https://bhpho.to/2lQLw8S

question

I have an older gateway windows 7 pc only a single gva output. I need a converter to hdmi and a vga splitter to run two monitors?
Asked by: Max M.
This device simply takes a digital HDMI signal and converts to an analog SVGA output. It will not provide you with any means of running 2 monitors. If you want the same display on 2 monitors you can use a splitter. You will need to buy a splitter that matches whichever output you choose to go with. So, if you buy this device, you will need a splitter that takes a single SVGA input and splits it into 2 XXXX output of your choice. If you are trying to get 2 monitors that Windows (I assume) will see as independent monitors, then you need a graphics card to do so, or device similar to TripleHead2Go (multi monitor adapter). In order to have Windows see independent monitors, you have to have some kind of hardware that will manage 2 monitors (either graphics card, or external graphics processor). I assume you want Windows to see 2 monitors, I recommend a new graphics card to do so.
