For example, Photogenic's 1,000W/s PL1000DR gets 300 full power flashes on a fully charged battery while their AKC160 will get a whopping 2,050 flashes from the same battery. Photogenic doubles that capacity by including a spare battery but you can triple or quadruple your capacity by simply purchasing extra batteries which can be charged apart from the inverter. Extra chargers are available to charge more than 1 battery concurrently.

Photogenic 956064 Overview

The Photogenic ION Lithium-ion Pure Sine Wave Inverter System with Spare Battery allows you to take your studio strobes on the road or off the road without electricity and without noisy generators or bulky old-style inverters. Weighing in at only 3.5 lb including its battery, the ION measures only 7.5 x 4.4 x 3.3" but is able to deliver hundreds or even thousands of full power flashes depending on the flash head in use. For example, Photogenic's 1,000W/s PL1000DR gets 300 full power flashes on a fully charged battery while their AKC160 will get a whopping 2,050 flashes from the same battery. Photogenic doubles that capacity by including a spare battery but you can triple or quadruple your capacity by simply purchasing extra batteries which can be charged apart from the inverter. Extra chargers are available to charge more than 1 battery concurrently.

Convenience features include a USB port to power computers and other electronic devices and an LED "fuel gauge" that allows you to check on remaining power at a glance. The system includes the ION Inverter, battery, charger, light stand clamp and strap. A specially designed case is also included that can hold a complete ION Inverter Kit plus 2 spare batteries.

Note: flash capacity specs are based on Photogenic flash heads but other brands of flash heads may be used with the inverter. Power input is 100 to 265VAC, 50/60Hz but output is 120V only.

Powers 4 Monolights - Success!

I received my battery yesterday and today I put it through some shooting. I was able to use two extension cords and plug in 4 monolights and fire them off on full power. The mono lights that I own are the Astral Extreme AS-X-400. It is able to power 2 lights on half power settings and recycle my lights in under 1/2 second. With four lights connected I am able to fire them at full power with a five second delay until ready to fire again. 2 light setup, full power with 2 second recycle time. Great power! I was more than impressed with it's abilities. Would highly recommend.

Will this system power more than 2 strobes with a powerstrip? Like 4 Elinchrom BRX 250s?

This inverter can power two Elinchrom BRX series monolights simultaneously for location work. However, there are no tests that we are aware of that confirm the inverter's compatibility with continuous lights such as the Genaray Spectro 14 LED.

Would this system power 2 Hensel Integra 1000 monos?

The battery really cannot handle that much power. That is a lot if you run the flashes at full power. It would be 2000 watts. You might get if you did get that about 150 total flashes.It would be better for two 1000 watt lights to use a battery inverter like this one, Profoto BatPac Portable Power Source (Multi-Voltage) B&H # PRBPP MFR # 901124.

Why won't this item work with modeling lights?

On page 4 of the instruction manual under the Safety Warning Precautions, the manufacturer states the following: DO NOT attempt to operate monolights and the modeling lamps at the same time. The system is not designed to operate modeling lamps on a continuous basis as this will quickly drain the battery, slow recycle period and potentially overheat the system.
