    Panasonic DMC-G6 reviews

Lumix DMC-G6 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Lens is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't Say Enough About This Gem First of all, it's small, plastic, cheap feeling. But that's the reason you can afford it. Inside is another story. VROOOOM! 1080 60p, Focus Peeking.. yeah! And it has a couple (actually useful) extras, like Panoramic and Stop Motion. Throw some good (none kit) glass on this thing and there's not much you can't do! I own a couple GH2 cameras and a GH4. I have absolutely NO problem throwing this thing in the mix and use it all of the time. THIS is the camera body I recommend to all of my friends who are just wanting to dabble in video/photo but aren't terrible serious or want to spend lots of money. It's always in my camera bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as it gets I have owned all of the Lumix G series cameras and retain the G3 and G5. I also have an Olympus E-M5. I shoot exclusively in RAW and process in Lightroom. The images from the G6 and the E-M5 using the same lens are equally excellent. The features that make me prefer the G6 are better ergonomics, fully articulated LCD, focus peaking, and more efficient customization. The excellent IBIS of the E-M5 is rarely needed for m4/3 primes. It is most useful with the 60mm Macro. The OIS on the Panasonic 100-300 plus the G6 sensor provided reliably sharp images at f5.6, 1/500, iso 10,000. Hand held, 600 mm equivalent, acceptable noise. I am happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Little Beast of a Video Camera I bought the G6 for video, having heard it had very decent performances. And it does. Image quality is very good for the price. Sharp, detailed, decent colors and low light (definitely improved over GH2). Choice of 108060p, mov or avchd, adjustable sound levels with meters if you wish to use an external mic to record very good sound, good lcd and viewfinder is very useful, improved wider hand grip area, wi-fi monitoring and camera control, same batteries as GH2, plus a bunch of other elements making it a great low budget camera with a ton of video features. It shoots decent stills as well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Camera for Price, One big drawback So far, I love this camera. I did some side by side comparison shooting with my GH2 and the footage is noticeably better. It is sharper, has better color, especially when using old nikkon glass that tends to be washed out with the gh2, the focus peaking is amazing, and the screen is really nice. There are some drawbacks, though. The biggest is no live feed, hdmi out. That was a dealbreaker as far as trying to sell my gh2 and run with two g6's. The sd card is inside next to the battery, which is inconvenient. There are a lot less dial options as well. Overall, for the price, I don't think there is anything better out there for video.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect I bought the G6 for video to replace a stolen hacked GH2, and I have not been disappointed. Image quality in general is better than a stock GH2, but does show motion artifacts on a complicated subject such as breaking surf that a GH2 running Flowmotion does not. So far, I have not encountered banding, a significant problem on the GH2. To test dynamic range, I locked in exposure from outdoors, then went inside. In a room lit only by exterior light from windows, I was able to retrieve excellent detail in the shadows in FCPX. I did have one significant issue - occasionally the camera will lock up in playback, requiring a battery restart. The Wifi feature works, but is useful only in specific situations. The focus peaking feature is great in good light, but does not come into play in a dark scene. If you prefer to simply start making great films without spending a lot of time trying different settings, use the Standard profile unmodified and get to work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good. I've had my G6 about a week now and it has performed nearly flawlessly. I'm using it mainly for video, but do some dabbling in photography as well. The video detail is amazing. The picture is sharp, there's no moire, colors are rich, and the codec allows for decent color correction/grading. The camera is comfortable in my hands, although possibly a bit too small. Coming from canon DSLRs, it really is tiny. I expect this is something I'll get used to though. Also, the camera does feel cheap and plastic compared to DSLRs; not fragile, just...lightweight. Peaking, crop mode, touch autofocusing, all work beautifully. I did have two incidents where the g6 froze on me and i had to pull the battery. At this point though, i believe they were isolated incidents. Still, hopefully panasonic will fix this with an update. Overall, I'm a happy videographer. The G6 holds up to the hype.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for hiking and a great value This is a perfect camera for hiking and backpacking. It's relatively small and very lightweight and the new kit lens is lighter and smaller than its predecessor. I love the ergonomics as compared to my G3. If you're at all familiar with other G series cameras you'll feel right at home with the G6. The Wifi implementation works really well. Autofocus is faster than my G3 and exposure compensation is really quick and easy using the new toggle switch next to the shutter button. Image quality appears on par with, or perhaps just a little bit better than the G3. It may be because I use the Wifi, but battery life is shorter than the G3. For the price I paid, I am very happy with this camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This camera works for me I upgraded from a Lumix - G2. This camera delivers the goods. I primarily shoot with a Panasonic 20mm lens. The camera is compact but not small. Its light enough to carry around all day long without ever noticing it there. It's a perfect camera to take on a vacation or a days walk around the city. So far I'm very happy with low light performance. I put an old Leica 28mm on it and the image looked like you'd expect a Leica lens to perform - sharp with great tonal separation. This wasn't the case on the G2. For the price point this is the Mirrorless camera you should give serious consideration.
