Well made and holds well, does the job...

the included bolt sheared off with and destroyed my lens.

With a load less than the stated capacity of 15 pounds, the included 1/4-20 to 3/8-16 bolt sheared off, my camera fell, and it destroyed a rare expensive and effectively irreplaceable lens. I was using this with the impact camera platform. Don't buy this trash or you will live to regret it. Whoever is responsible for this piece of garbage, consider yourself on notice because I'm coming for you all. You destroyed my canon fd 15mm fisheye, this cannot be allowed to pass. It may take years, it may take centuries, but one day vengeance will be mine.

Would this support the weight of a 2lbs spotlight?
Asked by: Chris
I would say, yes on 2#. I use it mainly to hold GoPro mounts for bike handlebars, forks, tube. I also use it to mount battery packs to light stand. It holds the various mounts and cameras, batteries in the 2# range and manages the vibration of the ride, etc. My opinion is a yes.

how does the ratchet work- and if the clamp is sliding on a pole, then how many turns will it take to tighten?
Asked by: Bruce
You can pull on the ratchet of the Impact Atom Clamp with Ratchet Handle and move it to a position allowing you to provide maximum force even if you cannot spin the handle 360º. You can tighten it down until it will no longer turn; if it still moves, you need a smaller clamp or a larger rod.

question

size of threads of mount?
Asked by: Anonymous
Standard 1/4 20 and 3/8 16 threaded holes. Be warned though: this mount is NOT intended for mounting heavy items. I snapped off the retaining pin on this unit when I overtightened it on a tripod with a SmallHD DP7 on it. I am a bit of an overtightener, but I was still surprised. If you want to be able to CRANK something down and have it hold weight, go with the Manfrotto Super Clamp. A LOT more weight and bulk, but I have never seen one break, ever... I still use this to mount GoPro cams, mics, small lights, etc. But I went back the the Super Clamp for my monitors mounts. Just not willing to put an $1800 piece of gear on one anymore. Good to have a couple in your kit at this price though.
