Olympus FCON-T01 reviews

Fisheye Tough Lens Pack is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy with results I have used this both above and underwater. I really like the perspective it brings to the TG-2 which makes it stand out from a usual 'point and shoot' camera. The wide angle distortion it provides is nowhere as aggressive as with an SLR fisheye (eg Canon 15mm), but this also makes the effect less 'overdone'. I would prefer the adapter and lens to be able to be 'locked in' a bit more securely, but so far no real issues with this. I have also experienced some very light condensation build up on the TG-2 lens after taking the fisheye lens off. This lasted only a matter of minutes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little lens I bought this lens to use with an Olympus Tough TG-3 that I just purchased. I've only just begun using it, but have been quite pleasantly surprised by the image quality and additional versatility that it brings to the TG-3. The only critiques I would make are that the adapter is a little cheap plastic thing that I have found difficult to remove from the camera after I remove the lens. In addition, the lens itself threads onto the adapter rather than fitting on via a click-lock kind of mechanism (the adapter itself fits on the camera with a click-lock mechanism). I have found this threading to be a bit delicate and do have some concerns that cross-threading the lens would be pretty easy and might damage the threading and make the lens difficult to remove.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens, so-so connection to camer I primarily use this with an olympus TG-4 for freshwater underwater photographs, and occasionally for wide angle above water photos. The good: This lens takes nice sharp photos, and having a modular lens available is really unique for a point and shoot. It is much easier for me to get moving fish in the frame underwater with the fisheye lens, particularly when I can't see the viewscreen when aiming the camera, which is often the case when snorkeling. The lens is also large enough to take split underwater/above water shots. The bad: the connection between the lens pack and camera is not completely tight, so I can end up with water and air in the space between the lens and camera, and an annoying bubble line. I can manage this by opening the screw threads underwater to make sure the space fills with water, and then keeping the camera underwater - this works and the photos look great, but it's something I have to pay attention to. (This in no way threatens the camera or lens, both themselves are completely waterproof)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkably sharp Add-on lens converters are often thought of as compromises, but this one is as sharp and color-accurate as any of my best DSLR lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wide lens for the TG-3 You need a wide lens when shooting large fish. This on works great on the TG-3.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp images Good sharp images. Only negative is that the adapter is pretty flimsy and I can see it not standing up to much abuse. But it comes with a lens cap that can be put in place when the fisheye is removed, something that is lacking with most point and shoots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens, but the mounting hardware should be improved The lens is fantastic- I pretty much keep it on all the time. Sharp, good extra wide angle with little fish-eye distortion. I have used it snorkeling, kayaking, etc. Love it. On the other hand, the adapter ring- not so much. It's necessary to mount the lens, but does not provide a feeling of security that the lens is fully locked into place, and that it won't come off with minimal effort. The lens hasn't actually come off, but feels as though it could. The adapter ring should be made of metal, but unfortunately is only thin plastic, and I have replaced it once already, after 6 months of ordinary use, because part of the mounting ring that locks into the camera broke off. Should be a more secure fit and more durable material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have Accessory Bought this accessory to use for trip next year in Sea of Cortez and close ups of whales. Testing it this week at family beach trip. Only recently acquired the Olympus TG-4, so really a test of both. Love the RAW files from the TG-4 (only point and shoot that generates RAW file). The RAW file from the camera and fisheye lens is amazing. Great resolution only a foot or so from subject and background sharp as a tack. Of course the lateral and distant perspective needs work in Lightroom or PS....unless the effect is desirable. Lens is easily attached/detached and cleaned. Lens caps fit snug. Small and secure enough in a pocket to carry about and quickly attach. Only downside is that the flash isn't usable with the lens attached. Simply get a bright spot in bottom left quarter of picture. Otherwise, love the camera and fisheye lens accessory. Can't wait to get it subsurface.
