Velbon UT 63D overview

  • 1Description

The UT-63D Tripod with QHD-63D Ball Head from Velbon supports up to 13.2 lb, measures 12.0" when folded, and includes a quick release plate. Each of its 6-section legs features an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, and twist locks for rapid deployment. The UT-63D tripod can be set at a minimum height of 13.5" to a maximum height of 56.3", or 61.8" with its push-and-pull, rapid center column fully raised. To further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, each leg includes a rubber foot.

Cameras, lenses, or sport optics that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's ball head using a quick release cam lock. The ball head is removable, provides up to a 90° tilt for portrait orientation, 360° of independent rotation, and can be locked into place along its range of movement.

For added versatility, the center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. A carry bag with a strap is provided for storage and transport.

    Velbon UT 63D reviews

UT-63D Tripod with QHD-63D Ball Head is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I chose to purchase this product after comparing it to a lot of other brands on the market. The price was really reasonable, the body folds down to fit in my camera bag, the ball head is a must and it's sturdy. It took me a moment to get comfortable with the twist to secure design of the legs (I'm used to locks), but now I can have the whole thing up and ready to go on about a minute and a half with no problems. Aside from being small when folded, this model is super light weight and not an inconvenience to lug around. I would highly recommend this model to anyone looking for a deal on a well made, travel efficient tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Tripod I've owned about 20 tripods over the past 40 years of shooting stills and video. Gitzo's, Hakuba, Induro, MeFoto, Miller, Sachtler, Vinten and Velbon. I've used them all for different cameras and purposes, stills and video. I bought this tripod to shoot video with my Sony Alpha a7S II while traveling with a small camera backpack. The background plates I'm shooting are all locked down and so I don't need a fluid head for these shots. It's run and gun, on the sly, under the radar and this little but very sturdy and very fast to set-up tripod is awesome. All I'm carrying is a Lowpro BP 250AWll and the Velbon 63D with my MeFoto smaller ball head measures 11.25 inches and fits in the top of the back pack sideways. It's super fast to set-up and take down, twist and yank to open, twist and collapse to close. It's plenty sturdy for my Sony W/Metabones adapter and Canon lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very convenient It's not a heavy duty tripod, keep that in mind. Other than that the tripod is surprisingly compact, light and very easy and super fast to set up once you understand the way the legs are extended. The tripod has 5 leg sections but you only have to turn two adjacent locks to fully extend them so it is very quick. The tripod is very sturdy and solid for a compact camera like my X-Por2. Beware that the plate is non standard, it is a good plate but you will need a small Desmond clamp to make it compatible with arca swiss.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad Experience If you are very slow, very careful and have a good unit, this travel tripod might work for you. For me it was junk. I returned my first one and would have returned the second one, but had to leave for Iceland to see Northern Lights, etc. I was in and out of car many times a day try g to set up quickly. (Limited daylight in winter.). First the legs wouldn't fully retract, then a leg fell off while my photographer/guide working just as quickly had no problems with his travel Manfrotto with flip levers. The twist locking/unlocking of the Velbon is delicate. However, it does extend high and is more stable than other travel tripods when it works. I left mine in the garbage in Iceland.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted I was looking for a light weight, easy to use tripod for my Hawaiian vacation. I am very happy with it here at home so far. It is well made, very sturdy when fully extended, and I am very happy with the it. I will let you know more when I get back from vacation. I think it's going to be just about perfect though. It is light enough and will be easy to put in my carry on luggage too. Aloha

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great tripod but... ... it's feet keeping falling off. Today I lost one. Yikes? Don't know if replacements are available yet. Perhaps they can be locktighted on? Otherwise, I like it allot. Very compact when folded down. Quick setup. Sturdy. But feet falling off is a deal breaker!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff I wanted a solid tripod that would fit in my lowepro computer trekker backpack. I like keeping all my gear in one bag, if possible. This tripod was the ideal match. It's sturdy, well built, easy to extend and not terribly heavy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from simple and easy to fit in a regular back I wanted a tripod that fits easily in a regular backpack. It works perfectly. In addition it is very stable with 4 different possible heights.
