The GH3/GH4 Z-Finder Pro Optical Viewfinder from Zacuto attaches to the Panasonic GH3 and GH4 cameras and provides a large, stable, eye-level viewer designed for shooting video. Its large eye cup blocks out extraneous light and offers a comfortable point of stability. The viewfinder has a 40mm diameter Zacuto lens and provides a 2.5x magnification of the camera's LCD monitor. The lens has an anti-fog protective cover and a built-in diopter for fine tuning the focus to match your eyesight.

The Z-Finder Pro attaches to the GH3/GH4 via the included Gorilla Plate V2 and the Z-Finder Mounting Frame for the GH3/GH4. It will not fit other cameras nor will it work on the cameras with a battery grip attached or with the LCD screen articulated. The frame has a rubber coating to protect the LCD as well as to provide a firm seal with the camera. The Gorilla Plate V2 attaches to the camera's tripod socket with a 1/4"-20 screw and offers a 15mm rod port. The Z-Finder Pro can be detached from the frame easily and hung around your neck on the included lanyard.

Three additional extender mounting frames are included to extend the distance between the viewfinder's lens and the camera's LCD monitor. This is intended for use by farsighted users as the increased distance will bring the image into focus. Also included is one installed and one additional anti-fog disc, a dust cover, lens cap, sun mask, protective boot, and lanyard.

If you already own a Z-Finder Pro or Z-Finder Jr, you can use it with the GH3/GH4; however, you do need the Gorilla Plate V2 and the Z-Finder Mounting Frame for GH3/GH4, available heredcrwaaaftwcadfxxvwfbbvczquucsrs.

GH3/GH4 Z-Finder Pro Optical Viewfinder is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extra focusing help that I need I don't trust my vision on these little monitors, and this is an affordable way to keep video in focus. Downside: Zacuto has not tested this on the GH4 with a Metabones Speedbooster. The Z-Finder will not fit the GH4-Speedbooster rig!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice for run and gun Got this to help with focusing and to add stabilization while shooting handheld. Well constructed. A little heavy with the plate, but not too bad. Took me awhile to get it to line up properly (the instructions didn't really help), but once I got it right, it works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but takes time to adjust The viewfinder works well on the GH3 but the instructions leave a lot to be desired - they need to be more descriptive and proscriptive concerning adjustment etc. Otherwise, good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very High Quality I've been using the LCDVF version of viewfinder for many years on my Canon DSLR's as well as on my GH4. It's worked great but it's held on by the magnetized frame. I recently purchased a 2nd GH4 and decided I should step up to this Z-Finder. It was easy to mount and line up and it is excellent quality. I did add 1 of the extensions because it mounts very close to the eye piece of the GH4 & by doing so it added a large enough gap to mount easier. My only complaint is that once it's snapped in place, it is a bit difficult to remove. The best way I have found to remove it is to squeeze it from the bottom and that helps release it. That's not an issue that should prevent you from using it though because it really is a high end product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from very Pricey It's a good product - it's basically a magnifier that attaches to your camera and has a diopter adjustment. But I have to point out - What earth shaking difference can this particular product make to a production, considering its high price, than other (upto 8-9x less expensive) similar or identical products available in the market, that can well serve the same purpose. Zacuto should respect the intelligence of consumers more in its pricing of products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have for Film Making What can I say...Zacuto makes the best products for film makers and professionals. The Z finder works flawlessly with the new GH4 and is critical for stability and accurate focus. There is a little bulk to it, but I don't see any alternatives that work half as well. Zacuto products aren't cheap, but they are worth the money. They never fail and are solid as a rock. I'd highly recommend the Z finder and I'd buy it again in a flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dont Settle For Anything Less Simple the best out there. For the price, it should be. It's well built and very secure not like magnetized ones that come off all the time. The zfinder stays in place. Maybe the only downside is that its so secure its tough to pop out. I usually just unscrew it from the base when I need to flip the screen of my GH3. Either that or use an external monotor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Heavy and well made but clunky This viewfinder is very well made of durable materials but sadly in the field it can be difficult to use. For anyone over 40 or with a touch of far sighted vision you will not be able to focus the viewfinder as the diopter is weak (a 3x diopter on a $ flip up viewfinder I got off @ works much better). They know this and ship the unit with a series of extension frames that snap on and then don't easily snap off to extend the viewfinder further away from the camera screen. I had to use all of them and the result is added bulk and weight that makes any kind of high or low angle extremely difficult to frame and shoot. I just did a low shot this morning and it was nearly impossible to frame lying on the ground and the snap on eyecup cover fell off it's attached string and got lost - on only the second occasion I've tried to use this expensive accessory in the field. This viewfinder would be a better choice if your camera did not have a swing out, articulated screen. The metal frame that the viewfinder mounts to is solid and well made but will only mount directly to the back of the camera so a stationary screen is a better call for this viewfinder. For those cameras with a swing out screen, well you can't use it in that mode with this viewfinder - not with any ease anyway. They are now offering an adhesive frame to stick directly to the screen so the viewfinder may be 'snapped on' (realize those screen hinges and wires are VERY delicate and all that snapping isn't likely good for it). The user will likely find that the weight of the viewfinder itself will cause gravity to drag the whole thing down when attached to the adhesive frame, adding a lot of torque to any movement or stress put on the hinge as well. One good knock or a series of hard wiggles and you could cause damage to your camera's screen hinge and / or electrical wires. Zacuto is now making a Jr version of this viewfinder that appears to be lighter but at $ it seems pricey. There are several adhesive frame mounted, swing up, viewfinders on the market now that offer a 3x diopter and are light enough to work better on cameras with swing out screens. These generally can be found for about $ and while not nearly as solidly built I find it far easier to use and it focuses perfectly. The glue on the adhesive frames can lose it's strength in extreme heat, moisture or cold but I put a bit of velcro on the outside of the viewfinder housing and use a velcro cable tie looped behind the screen back to keep it in place on these kind of days. This is the best overall viewfinder rig that I've found to work for me at a much better price point. The Zacuto is a good product and it is very well made. I do not find it easy to use in the field shooting a lot of low or high angle shots. Mounted on a tripod waist to head high or shooting hand held at chest height it would be easier to capture those kind of angles. Sadly, I find this viewfinder to be too restrictive to use in general field use on most of my work and the price tag is prohibitive. I may elect to sell this Zacuto it as I don't see using it much.
