B+W 66-044837 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 49mm Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Multi-Resistant Coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.
Constructed from high quality Schott glass for optical clarity.
Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

49mm Circular Polarizer MRC Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for I used this polarizing filter, which was just about the most expensive thing I could find in its size and class, on July 4th 2011 to shoot sunset over the CIRCLE LINE pier at 42nd Street and the North River ( that's the Hudson to you landlubbers ) before the fireworks would start. The results were astounding; first of all it was a fantastic sunset. But I got every bit of it just as the eye could see it if you were there. Do NOT buy budget glass for your quality lens. It's like taking a nice shower and then powdering yourself all over and stepping into a jumpsuit you just used to clean the septic tank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from does the job well Good polarization, screws on easily, suggest getting a 49mm lens cap if using with the Sony FE 35mm f2.8 Sonnar lens because the standard lens hood / cap will not attach over it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Important photo accessory - the polarizing filter Even though the circular polarizing filter is going to be used for one of my smaller (pocket) digital camera, I do need a polarizing filter for it. It is an important accessory for any camera and it pays off to get a good quality filter. Polarizing filter reduces glare, darkens the sky, but also enhances the vegetation greens - about the way our eyes would see. For cameras without the filter threads, I make myself simple polarizing filter adapters.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reviewers correct BUT no color Yes if you point toward glass or water it will make the water surface clear and and you will see things through a shiny glass/water BUT the one thing I mainly wanted is a deepening of sky colors also and it is just not there. You point at a 45 degree angle from the sun (like always)and turn the glass and it is real hard to see the change in the blue sky. I like sunrises/sets and the rainbow of colors being enhanced just by turning the glass that deep dark blue and everything that comes with it NOT WITH THIS GLASS....!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Very nicely machined threads so does not get stuck on the camera lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well and improves daylight images I've been using this filter on a Leica Q camera. When I rotate this lens filter I do not see any difference in polarizing characteristics. However, that's a good thing in my opinion; I like the extra depth in the image I'm getting from using this filter when shooting landscapes and buildings in bright daylight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good polarizer, good price The two features which most appealed to me were the brass filter ring and the multi-coated surface. This seems to me to be an excellent quality filter at a very reasonable price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scott Glass at the right price point Great quality filter. We use this filter with our Sony a6000 50mm-210mm lens. We are frequently out on the water and taking pictures of New York Harbor.
